I got the discount this morning by switching to energy saver 2 but I have since been on the website and used a calculator. I would actually be paying £10 a month MORE so I changed back a few minutes ago as my yearly bill would in fact go up by about £70

I must say that their customer service is really good

just got off the phone to the nice people at Scotish Power :D i was on the old online energy saver, asked her about the new EnergySaver2 product, and she said the same only for new blah blah blah but would put me on it to stay with them.
Anyway £15 a quarter will be added to account  jubbley.

Hi , I am on online saver standard and live in the South East. Would I benefit from changing to Energy Saver 2.
Never pay more than you have too

wirehair you need to compare the two lots of charges. You will find details of sp charges on their website before you log on. It was to my disappointment that I discovered energy2 charges were quite a bit higher than the online saver standard. I did the check using my calculator and it wasn`t difficult. You just substitute the energy2 for the standard rates in your bill

The extra amount for me would be £120 a year and that is why I changed my mind but thanks anyway to the OP for sharing with the rest of us

I'm in the south east sg area, and was on the standard online jobby.
Just checked my account and i'm in credit of £30.03... yesterday before i rang up scotish power i was only £11.03 in credit??
  • I've just checked my bill and it says I'm on the 'Premier Plus' package, which is a 'no standing charge' option.

I've just worked out that over the last six months on my existing package, I have paid £247.33 for my gas and electric.

Based on the charges for the new tariff, I would pay £233.96 for my gas and electric.

So even though I would be paying a standing charge on a daily basis, with the lower rates and larger online discount, I would be paying less for my gas and electric on the new tariff.

Thanks to the orginal poster for pointing this out - I'll be giving Scottish Power a call on Monday morning!

I am just switching from Scottiish Power, as I will save much more money with EDF... the top result via the Energy comparison sites (Energy Helpline & MoneySuperMarket), with a £30 cashback!!

Here are the EDF rate details:

and here are the Scottish Power Online Energy details:

I should(!) save around another £100 -ish a year.

Is there any tie in when you switch as an existing customer?

It's just that Npower work out to be £100 cheaper than my current Scottish Power tariff & £30 cheaper than the energy saver 2 tariff. Also, I could get £30 cashback for switching to Npower.

    Would this be cheeky?

If there is no tie in, I could phone up Scottish Power today & get switched to the energy saver 2 tariff, then initiate a switch to Npower & bag myself £30 cashback as well as cheaper energy!

The only drawback with Npower is, they hold the £63 discount until you have been with them for a year, whereas Scottish Power pay the discount daily!!

I have had a look at the terms and conditions (T & C).
Whilst the usage rates are the same for me whether online or saver2, I noticed that online saver2 rates are fixed until Jan 2008.
As I understand it, the consensus is that energy rates are on the way down so you may get a discount at the start but could lose out if rates fall.

Incidentally in the T & C I don't think there was any reference to the saver 2 being only available for new customers.
