well.. sunday night and i have to say, i didn't get done what i said i would!

    - 1 zip bag (like a makeup purse), all decorated with sequins (handsewn on)
    - 1 drawstring bag, all decorated with beads (handsewn on)
    - 6 small lavender drawstring bags, decorated with beads (handsewn on)
    - 1 large rice bag to fit around knee, with holder
    - 2 other rice bags with holders
    - 2 emergency sewing kits, with stuff like extra thread, tape measure, needles, scissors, buttons, all hand sewn in

    what i haven't done:

    - plastic bag recycler and;
    - christmas table runner and napkin rings; but then i did a couple things that weren't on my original list so i'm happy with that.

I'm going to do the recycler and table runner/napkin rings tomorrow, and then after that perhaps a couple more rice bags (which are fairly quick to run up, at least the way i do em), couple more lavender bags, then finish the christmas stockings (small bags made out of patchwork, lined) and then work on Gran's quilt. I'm aiming to have all the sewing stuff completed by next sunday.

    how did everyone else do?

Oh I like the idea of working towards next Sunday.

My weekend was a washout - all I did was cutting out, but that did include pinning pattern pieces twice on to mohair, after realising that my first choice of pattern just wasn't right.
  • Oooh this sounds great. I've been meaning to make a long (ankle length) stretchy jersey dress which I can wear during and after my pregnancy. Does anyone have good recommendations for cheap places to get patterns? Or how to make a simple v-neck long sleeved dress (with a sort of flared skirt - I've seen how the straight dresses make me look like a heiferlump).

Remeber that there's a good chance that by the end of your pregnancy you will never again want to see any of your maternity clothes, which will in any case be washed within an inch of their lives because it's just not possible to avoid dropping things on the bump.

If you can get to see a pattern book, and are new to sewing, look in the Easy to Sew sections, where the prices are usually less extortionate.
  • Oh really? That I didn't know (tis my first). I was planning on going for dark colours as I'm a bit of a messy eater at the best of times!
  • Oh i love the sound of this challenge, any chance of it rolling over a few more sundays? I've been ignoring my sewing table for a couple of weeks and it's getting ridiculous.

Here's my list of small steps to get me started:

For felt slip cover for photo album:
    Cut out shapes for applique
    Iron them onto backing felt.

    For baby cot bedspread:
    Finish cutting out fabric
Get at least two strips sewn together.

For my never-ending cord trousers (lol):
Just get the belt loops done
    (then I can forgive myself).

Tried to stick to small jobs, hope that will get me started. Thanks for this challenge!

I dunno about the challenge rolling onto next sunday - it wasn't mine to start with.... but i know i'm aiming to get all my sewing done by then - if only so that the week after, i can do some of the messier cooking (pastry, mince pies. etc.) and then give the kitchen (and the rest of the flat) a *really* good going over in order to prepare for xmas. Then the week after that, the run up to xmas, will be spent wrapping pressies/shopping for food/relaxing because i've got 2 christmas days ahead of me (family visiting on 27th for another "christmas day") and on 28th we fly out to the Netherlands..

anyway, i gotta get on with it!!! hope everyone else manages to get theirs done!

  • Ooh, I'd love to join in but am currently on my very own DIY get the spare room decorated before Christmas challenge. However it does include making curtains and I am optimisitically aiming to make them this week. Tonight I'll measure up I think. :) I got some georgeous Laura Ashley fabric reduced from £20 a metre to £4.95 and I'm all excited as I'd never be able to afford it otherwise. :D

    I'll report back how I'm doing. :)
