Has anyone ever priced up how much it costs to make in total?

    **** all!!!
A bag of soda crystals costs about 70p, and a pack of 3 bars of tesco value soap is less than 30p, so thats 3 batches for a pound approx, and a batch may last you a month if you do an 'average' amount of washing! Plus the soda crystals are enough to make more than 3 batches, as you only need 8oz per batch.
The essential oils are optional and I have presumed (?) that many of you like me will have bottles of the stuff lurking about.
I keep my gloop in the boxes you get cakes in from poundland!

I've never bothered with the gloop yet. I buy Tesco's own powder which is £2.98 for the large box, not sure how long it lasts I think about 45 washes. I dont have pots large enough so will have to look around car boots for some.

I never got on with gloop - I'm using the HM Laundry powder instead and I'm very happy with that :D Haven't costed it out yet because I've only just begun this week, but I'm looking forward to working it out based on our family's needs/requirements.

  • I use Sainsbury's value powder (£1.65 for 4.4kg) on half measures. That lasts me about four months.

I've been making gloop for yonks. I find if great for dark colours and non stained pastels. For whites and heavy soiled pastels I use Tesco Econ bio powder along with the gloop. Laundry is much softer and less starchy with gloop compaired to Bio Powder IMO

I'm less precise when making it than the websites instructions. this is what I do

Grate soap into a pyrex bowl, cover with boiling water and whack into micro to disolve. Blitz with an electric hand mixer and pour into an old nappy bucket.

Top up with a bit more hot water and add a cup of soda crystals. Mix well and keep adding hot water until the bucket is full.

Leave to cool stiring when I feel like it.

Sometimes I add a cup of washing up liquid cos I like to see lots of bubbles when I was (doesn't wash any better but I like to see them:D ) DON'T ADD THIS IF YOU USE A FRONT LOADER.

I make a bucket load every 10 days or so cos I have more washing than widow Twanky:eek:

I keep it in the garage where my washer and drier are. It's thicker than snot but does not go solid. The texture of blamange is about the best I can describe it. I'm lucky to have a large utility area, if your laundry is in the kitchen you would probably want to decant it into more domestic sized containers. But a nappy bucket works for me cos I can stick heavy stained bits, collars and cuffs into the bucket and give them a good scrunge with the gloop as a pre-treat before I throw them into the wash, can also fish bits out of the machine mid cycle and scrunge again in necesary.
