    Cheers folks.

I would much rather be sat in Gran Canaria rather than going through this stress but at least i'm prepared for all possibilities now.
  • Hello good people of MSE, seeking a little advice for my sister who is in Portugal. She's due back tomorrow, but obviously the chances of that happening look slim. Where does she stand on getting fees for overnight hotels/accommodation? Is it purely down to Airlines/Insurance policies or is there EU regs on this?

She's flying with Monarch and has travel insurance with Fortis. Who should she be dealing with?

Many apologies if this has already been covered or is really basic, I'm just trying to help her out.

    Thanks guys :)

and Fortis themselves seem to have posted info on their website yesterday and should be applauded for it: http://www.fortisinsurance.co.uk/policyholders/news/press-releases/Details/?newsID=134

Not sure if they are correct in saying 'European' airline?

  • So... looking at Article 9 she should be entitled to free accommodation? :)

It appears her flight has already been cancelled, does all that still apply? Or does she just get a refund?

I'm a terribly sorry I'm asking such basic questions :(

England and Wales now closed until at least 1300 tomorrow. Some airports North of Manchester may be open tomorrow morning but expected to close again later in the day.

Scotland and the North Sea appear to be openeing.

Yep, free accommodation, food + transfers till Monarch can get her home (it's a British airline so definitely European.)

It appears from other posts today that Monarch have been very bad at fulfilling their responsibilities in this area so she may have to hassle them quite a bit - and in the worst case she might have to get her own accommodation + food & get Monarch to reimburse later.
