12 month contract now with Primus (but that's the same as BT).
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

How do Primus enforce a contract that is free?

Ok, i found that in the T&C, but as the other posted mentioned what is the point in holding you to a 12 months for a "free" service?

Also, what are the chances Primus will also change from 18:00 to 19:00?

The other option is to wait for O2 Home phone service to start next month.

Where BT goes the rest tend to follow.

I bet within a couple of years BT move it to 8pm-8am and they will argue that all they have done is bring daytime start back to where it was a few years ago.

    Thank you for your email.

I would like to confirm that I have placed an order to change your line rental to the standard Unlimited Weekend Plan as on 31/03/2010. I can confirm that you will not be held to term for this change of Line rental.

I am sorry to hear that you wish to cease the service with BT, BT we value you as a loyal customer. Is there any particular reason you wish to cease service or anything we can do to retain your custom?

Please note that BT require 14 days notice for the cancellation of service.

You will be able to cancel your account anytime after the 31/03/2010 as you will no longer be in term.

    Thank you for contacting BT.

    Yours sincerely,

    Jo Bishop

Just had a phone call (which was followed up in in email) from BT about my request to cancel. Here's what they said:
    Dear XXXXX,

Thank you for your email dated 13/02/10 regarding the Call Period and change of your Calling Plan.

I understand that you are unhappy with the change of call period. Please be informed that I have documented your feedback on the account and this matter will be looked into.

As you are unhappy with the change which will take place from 01/04/10, I have raised a request on the account to change the Calling Plan to Unlimited Weekend Plan without any cancellation charges. The reference number for this is XXXXXX. Please contact us in April to change your Calling Plan and quote the same reference number.
So according to this I can stay on the deal/rates that I'm on now (E&W Plan - due up in October) and change without charge on 1st April.

No mention that you are out of the 12 month contract, just that you could change to something else (Anytime at £4.99) in April. Anyone could change to Anytime in April.

She did say that on the phone but you're right, it's not in the email, back we go then...

Thank you for your email dated 14/02/10 regarding the Calling Plan

Please be informed that you will not be tied into 12 month contract for your phone line after changing your Calling Plan to Unlimited Weekend Plan.
    Sorted :D
