What a fantastic thread! I have dabbled in cross stitch years ago, and in fact I bought a kit for a V&A door pull in 2001 which is still in it's bag! I will dust it off and do that - thanks for the inspiration (read as "kick in the backside") xx

I found my old cross stitching magazines from years ago when I was trying to declutter, couldn't bear to get rid of them so had better make use of them again, there are a couple of freebies still attached so will make a start with those and hopefully finish them before easter.

My MIL makes tablecloths and christening gowns using the silky fine wool. They're absolutely stunning and are being handed down through the family as heirlooms.I think I'll give crocheting a go!

  • I like the sound of this thread. I used to crochet years ago. I wasn't really very good, I'm not very "crafty" or "handy" but I always found it very relaxing. I might start and crochet a blanket for my daughter, who has to have a big op in summer.
Does this still count? since its not exactly new?

During Lent i have 'decided' that I am going to give birth to a baby and attempt to bring it up. :D

I am thinking it ought to be seen as a long term project though- baby is for life and not just during cadburys creme egg season and all that:rotfl:

  • We will be flying to Madiera on 17th will have a week of eating, drinking and walking in the sun. I think what I will try when I get back is getting up earlier in the mornings. I lie in bed until 9am reading the paper with the electric blanket on (bliss) then rush around to get everything done. As the weather improves I really want to get out on allotment and also do some walking so must make an early start.

. Traditionally, Christians use the period of Lent as self-denial in preparation for Easter.
More and more Christians are giving something rather than giving up something. Self-denial is rather a selfish virtue after all. Christians I know will do something like donating the money they would normally spend on chocolate or alcohol to a good cause. I think this is a good thing to do even for those of us who are not Christians. We might do something like that this year.

OSwise the skill that eludes me is gardening so I might plant some salad seeds in pots.

Right had a think about what I want to try before Lent:
    • Crochet a blanket
    • Try out a walk on my own once a month with my dog
    • Book a holiday for just me before Easter
    • Try a new recipe a week or a fortnight
    • Use my sewing machine (keep putting it off!)
I've ordered the crochet book ans looking forward to it's arrival, then it's off to the wool shop on Sat for a mosey :D

How funny! I was thinking today (whilst sitting through a very boring course at work) that I'd like to start some needlepoint - I saw a beautiful framed piece the other day for £50 and thought 'I could do that!'

I'm currently doing a textured ceramics course but I'll happily take up another hobby (it beats spending my free time doing the housework!).
