This boils my blood. I was also told I'd be getting a call with a start date by the 23rd at the latest. And when I rang to double check on friday I got the "oh no, sorry, earliest will be end of october, maybe longer" and that my success letter was now no certainty I was getting a job at all :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

yep thats what they said to me too, i dont know if im more angry, upset, or just feel plain stupid

This is my worry - that a government letter congratulating me on my success and stating that on completion of successful checks I WILL get contacted with a start date may not now be worth the paper it's written on !!
Surely this letter must carry some weight and used as proof that they need to stick with their side of the deal.

The more you post your craziness - the more I like you. Really hoping we get posted in the same JC. It could be fun working with you

Hehe...have been told i am slightly eccentric...i take it as a compliment, better than being boring!! I hope we do too (if we ever get placed!) Be good to have someone to relate to, as starting a new job can be scary!! Well, i am terrified at the prospect anyway...especially since someone told me the customers have been known to 'lunge' over the desk...eeeek!!!

  • Their excuse will most likely be that as they didn't give us a start date they didn't enter into an agreement with us (even though they gave us a success letter congratulating us).

There's also the small matter of copious amounts of wasted taxpayer money: eg we know they paid for four CRB checks on Counterfeit,

And four for my wife too - I don't know how much they cost but that is a lot of wasted money and TIME. I have so many of them I was beginning to wonder whether I could use them to wallpaper the downstairs toilet. :D
  • I have a question to ask, courtesy of my wife.

At the moment she has a temporary role working at Wakefield Council. There is 6 weeks left on the contract but they want to take her on full time. However, as she has the DWP job starting on 19 October she doesn't want to take it. We know the DWP is an 18 month contract but it will save her about £100 per month in travel costs and about 1.5 hours per day in time.

However, she cannot/will not let the council know she is leaving until she has something in writing from DWP regarding a start date. So far we have only had phone calls. Nothing has arrived in the post to confirm dates, locations, times etc.

She is now worried that the start date will not be honoured because of the freeze and we have no comeback as we have no paperwork.

So, has anybody else got any thoughts on this?

I think they cost 24 pounds at the moment. Each.

Regarding your wife's dilemma - ring and chat to your local recruitment office?
