If you'd just bought one of these £20 xboxs, would you recommend modding it first or add the hard disk. If the hard disc is first, where would the image for the disc come from ?
    ta

    Mod it first.

Remember to take backups of your eeprom, bios etc. Ndure has a step which involves this being dumped onto your memory card. I always ftp into the xbox and take a copy of the backup directory.

You can install xbox media centre to the standard HDD in the xbox. There is usually enough space to do this.

NDURE seems to be the most up to date, but from what I gather there are extra steps to take when upgrading the HD compared to other mods.

Apparently my camera is a compatible USB device so I'm going to use that conjunction with a female USB soldered onto the joypad memory card port.

Not at all the HDD is very simple to install when using Ndure. Once you have your xboxhdm software, copy the relevant files to the appropriate folder and make a disc image. Connect your new HDD and follow the guide above to lock your HDD etc.

The only thing I have ahd to do is run the softmod hack again once the new HDD is installed and then format the drives.

Very simple thing to do. I have 2 with upgraded HDD and one more. 1 is in the lounge connected through my AV amp etc so I can use XBMC as video and music jukebox. My first one has a 120GB HDD and the last one I did had a 250GB HDD.
  • Hi Guys

If you look at link http://xboxmediacenter.com/wiki/index.php?title=As_a_Dashboard
it doesnt say you will require any other hardware to do this ,it seems only connecting xbox on internal network and transfering few file will convert xbox into media center - is it true? or i m interpreting it wrongly??

    thanks

This is to make the XBOX boot straight into XBMC and can only be down to a soft modded console. This is to replace the soft modded dash board with the XBMC on boot

You have to have a softmod on it (or chip) to be able to transfer files across and run your own dashboard.

It assumes you already have a non MS dashboard loaded which enables FTP etc

Well its all new to me and the technicalities are flying over my head for the moment, but I found this on a Canadian site

If you are attempting this upgrade after installing the Ndure softmod you will need to proceed differently as Krayzie's Ndure is a newer version of the softmod that creates a virtual drive C: by doing this any updates to the dash are on the Virtual Drive C: not the real one, this protects your Softmod from getting !!!!!!ed up but when you back-up drive C: your getting the Virtual C's contents not the actual drive C: which means this procedure will not work.

easiest way for me is to use a gamesave exploit.
so you put the save on a memory card(hardest bit if you dont have a usb memory card)
put the save on the xbox
boot the specific game(eg splinter cell) and load the save.
    this launches the softmod installer

if anyone struggles they can send me a memory card and i will put the files on the memory card and post it back(no charge!!)
  • when upgrading the hardidisk, the instructions says that copy folders "C" and "E" and put it into the linux folder. My question is do you copy the folders themselves OR just the "contents" of the folders?

If it is just the "contents" of these folders than would it mess up things as the location to put these is in the Linux folder (and not in separate folders)?

    Thanks
