Do you actually use your Microwave??

Back when we were at Uni about three years ago, me and my OH used the MW more than the oven (shameful!) we lived on beans on toast, microwave meals/pizza/soup, a load of rubbish mainly.
Now, OH has had a bit of a warning with high blood pressure (it's OK now) he doesn't eat MW meals because of all the salt (and the fact they are expensive rubbish). I prefer baked beans done on the hob (they are just nicer!) and I make my own soups in the slow cooker.
I've realised all I use the MW for now is defrosting! I defrost chicken, ASDA frozen asparagus, and garlic slices (they stick together so you can't grill them!). Everything else is made in or on the oven - to the point where if the MW packed in, I can't say I'd be in too great a rush to replace it.
Do the rest of you find that an OS lifestyle means you need your MW less?

Hardly use mine at all, maybe to reheat something and I can't stand anything cooked in a microwave as you say it's not the same as oven or stove top.Women and cats will do as they please and men and dogs should get used to it.;)
Happiness is a perfume you cannot pour on others without getting a few drops on yourself.

The only time I use mine is to defrost bread or melt cheese on toast as my grill is broken.

I think I use it more as I reheat the batch cooked items mainly in the microwave. I always use it for jacket spuds as they take so long in the oven. It seems to save time, some people say is healthier and saves on washing up too!0

Ours is only used for defrosting and reheating. Oh and strating off jacket spuds.0

Had our microwave for about 22 years and its still going strong. Takes up a lot of room though as they used to be very big. I use it for heating up things like soup and beans mainly.0

Ah yes! I do my spuds in there for about 7 mins before sticking them in a hot oven to crisp up. Mmm.0 -
Baked potatoes only and as its a combi they come out just like oven baked ones.My microwave was the biggest waste of money ever along with the cookbooks I have bought to go with it.Never used either, lives in the storecupboard now,it takes up so much space and as its stainless steel doe'snt go with an 1800s kitchen.0

I use it for porridge every morning and would really miss it for this - it speeds up my morning no end and since it's all in one bowl it saves washing up. Beyond this, defrosting is the main use though I will heat soup in it (but not baked beans, you're right that they're nicer on the hob). I will also reheat (HM!) frozen lasagna, casserole etc. Actually now that I think of it I do get my moneys worth from it because otherwise I'd be using the oven a lot more.0

I use mine for defrosting hm stock and muffins, and for heating up my wheatbag for my bad neck0

the only thing I ever used mine for as an OSer was melting buter for recipes and baking.
I never used it for anything else so when it caught fire when I absently put a cloth with lemon on to clean () I never replaced it.
Ive been without one now for about 8 months, and i havent missed it at all, apart from when I got cheap M&S Xmas puds and steamed them instead, had to wait much longer, than 8 mins to ping. Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0
