Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this: There’s an article on the main site you might like to read that gives more information on this subject. This article is updated at least monthly.
Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this: In case you didn’t know there’s a link to a comparison site that helps the site. If it won’t cost you any more to use it please go via that. You can find these in the bars at the top of the board or in the relevant article. Read more about this site’s non-profit driven ethical stance.Best_ISA_article wrote:External Mini Cash ISA Comparison
The External Price Comparison link below takes you to another site's daily updated comparison service. Yet unlike MoneySavingExpert, it is impacted by its commercial relationships so it does not list all best buys.
IMPORTANT WARNING! Always check this article's recommendations first. This comparison link isn't anywhere near as comprehensive as the article. Yet as a comparison service the prices are updated daily so it occassionally may provide interesting results.

I don't see it that way. Martin's best ISA article was around even before I created this thread. The idea to create this thread came about because there were so many new mini cash ISA options available this (calendar) year.
I looked on this website for a place to compare the best ones but couldn't find one. So I made a list of mini cash ISAs in Microsoft Word. Then thought that it might be useful to share it with other MSE members, who may be looking for an ISA for 2006/7 and/or 2007/8. So I posted it on MSE in March 2007 and it took off from there.
I've been surprised at just how popular it has become - but it wasn't created to take attention away from Martin's article. I even sent a PM to the new Savings/ISAs board guide, Crabman, asking him if he would like me to include links to Martin's ISAs article in my opening post in this thread. So I don't mind isasmurf's posting of the links above. At the end of the day, all of the info is there to help people. Please call me 'Kazza'.0 -
I completely support Kazza. Kazza's thread contains much more information than Martin's article and it is very useful information, particularly the information on ISAs that will accept transfers in. For example, Kazza's thread includes Abbey's ISA which at the moment is the best account for transferring ISAs and has a rate guarantee. This account is not included in Martin's article.
I think Kazza's thread complements Martin's article by providing more detailed information for those who want it. I don't think Kazza's article is competing with Martin's and I think that any information that helps us money savers is a good thing. Kazza's thread is beautifully organized (much better than the official comparison websites where it can be difficult to get all the relevant facts at a glance).
Thanks again Kazza.0 -

Sorry, I suppose I should qualify that comment by saying that it is the best buy if you have £9,000 or more in old ISAs (but this will apply to many people).
The more I think about it, the more I think that Martin's article should have a link to Kazza's thread for people who are interested in this extra information.0 -
My comment was far from an attack on Kazza who's work on this board is outstanding I cannot praise him highly enough.
My, perhaps, too cryptic comment was aimed at:
"In case you didn’t know there’s a link to a comparison site that helps the site. If it won’t cost you any more to use it please go via that."
I know this site does not run itself, but it's interesting that someone unstuck Kazza's thread for "commercial" reasons!
Don't want to make waves or appear too cynical but it seems to fly in the face of the stated purpose of this site's stated purpose.
For this, I may be struck off, in which case ... farewell, and thanks again Kazza and all the others who have helped.

I know it wasn't. My post wasn't really aimed at you - but rather the "other stuff"that was going on, which I've explained further in the PM I've just sent you.

I'd always thought Kazza was of the female variety! Sorry if I got it wrong.Debbie0

Though also not wishing to be too cynical [for a change] kept that thought to myself.
I think it misses the point though. Kazza's thread has been immensely helpful to all of us in the up to date at your fingertips detail it contains, things like rate guarantees, minimum amounts [Ruffler & Abbey] whether they allow transfers in and so on. Martin's article is there for all to read but how many times do posters come on with the query "which is the best for me?" - this thread is a "one stop shop" for that query which is proved by it's viewing numbers.RayWolfe wrote:For this, I may be struck off, in which case ... farewell, and thanks again Kazza and all the others who have helped.0 -
Well, I'm going to bed now but I'm a bit worried they're not at the top of the stairs, in the dark, waiting for me! :rotfl:0
