  • The £10.50 per month will be their "Flexi" agreement where you pay the first £50 for each completed repair, I would think. Also, they do an initial inspection, usually within 28days , which includes a basic boiler service, then your next service would be around month 3 of the following year's contract.

The homecare100 non flexi option is £13 per month, without the repair fee.

As for the full system care, then I would say it's a risk you take, if for example a radiator starts leaking or the TRV is faulty, those aren't included in the 100 so the extra £2 per month would be worth the peace of mind, and with the system only being a year old, you'd hope there won't be any repairs needed for a while, so the "flexi" might be just right for you. You'd save a few quid over the year if nothing goes wrong.

  • Evening all, just found this forum and joined straight away! Very interesting reading - just wondering if anyone else has had trouble with a Worcester Bosch combi boiler? Mine is just 5yrs old and for the past 18mths has been nothing but trouble. Back last summer it had a replacement valve at £130 (via local heating engineer), then between Christms and New Year the pump started leaking - £152 and now last week it's started playing up again. It's favourite trick is to only give us hot water when the heating is on, otherwise it sulks and just sits there. Heating engineer now says must be another problem. Considering what it cost me new, it should be a lot more realible. Interestingly enough Worcester Bosch say they cannot guarantee anything 100% - but, of course, didn't say that when it was purchased. My old Baxi was a lot less trouble. Just about to write yet another letter of complaint to Worcester Bosch - will never buy anything made by them again - even the heating engineer says it must be a 'Friday boiler'.....! Would be interested to hear if anyone else has had similar trouble.
  • I think anyone even considering buying heating cover should read the small print as to what is covered and not covered. British gas will just tell you that you the repair is not covered under there terms and conditions as it needs a powerflush carried out and try and charge you £700.00 and most of the other major companies sub contract there heating repairs out so it is hard to get a decent service from any of the major players.

My advice is have your boiler serviced every year and find a decent local Gas safe company to you. You will get a much better service and be treated like a human being.

Think I'm almost decidded onthe 100 flexi cover which works out at £10.50 including the first/annual service. Had a quick look through the terms and conditions and blimey they are not exactly concise are they! Couple of questions - have a manual for the Ideal icos boiler which has a service schedule/suggested process - will British Gas follow this or will they simply do their version? I hear that one of the most important things to get done each year on a condensing boiler is the clearing of the condensate trap. Would this definately be included? BG talks about clearing of 'sludge' being excluded - linked or something completely different? The 100 flexi cover would just cover the boiler itself and nothing else yes? The Range Tribune water cylinder (water storage) would be excluded unless I selected 200 flexi cover??

Engineer will use a telegan, and do necessary work depending on results. You can request a full strip service when requesting/booking the job.

I hear that one of the most important things to get done each year on a condensing boiler is the clearing of the condensate trap. Would this definately be included? Not tehnical enough to answer this but if it's essential maintainence, he/she should. Again, don't be afraid, you are paying them, ask them to make sure it's done.

BG talks about clearing of 'sludge' being excluded - linked or something completely different? Different. this is referring to sludge in the wet part of the system.

The 100 flexi cover would just cover the boiler itself and nothing else yes? Boiler and contraols, pump if not integrated and room stat.

The Range Tribune water cylinder (water storage) would be excluded unless I selected 200 flexi cover?? Yes, as would rads.

I hope I've helped a little, as you have probably guessed, I do work for them, and am proud to do so, but don't wish to shout it from the hilltops. I know there have been some horror stories on here, bu it ain't all bad! If you need any more help, don't hesitate to ask.

Thanks for your help again. Think I may go for a bit more piece of mind then and select thr 200flexi at £12.50 a month....
  • Just had my boiler cover renewal letter from British Gas. It's gone up 29%
(£60)from last year. Is this a record? I only had one call out during the year so it can't be that!!

Hi ardenhall, is it £15.33 a month for Homecare 200? This is what is advertised online currently.

Is it the same as the flexi200?

Is there anything to stop you cancelling the policy every year you get the renewal notice and keep taking taking out new policies by alternating between yourself and your partners name?
