thanks wasn't sure i rang them and they didn't no either!!, but thanks for that.
  • I work for the cash card team at Barclays and I can confirm that depending on which box you tick you will receive either a Barclays Cash Card or a Barclays Connect Electroinc Card (VISA Electron)
  • Sorry to be dense here but does that mean its a Visa Debit with no cheque guarantee function? or a basic cash card?

Morning all please can I ask big-banker what the electron card says on it? I specifically asked for an electron card and received one that says connect on it and have spent about an hour last night on with barclays customer service trying to convince me that I have an electron card. However I don't want to find myself in the situation of trying to book ryanair flights (the sole purpose of requesting the card) and having to use my usual connect card and incurring boking fees! Maybe it'd be better to just open a Halifax account.
  • Barclays no longer issue Visa Electron cards on current accounts. What they mean by it being "electron" is actually electronic in that is seeks authorisation everytime it is dipped or swipped.
  • Got my brand spanking new card in front of me and its a Barclays Connect Visa Debit card

Basically its a Visa debit card without cheque guarantee facilities. It is NOT an electron card and is actually accepted at more places than Electron

Can't really see much difference between the Baclays Visa Electron and the Co-Op Visa Electron. Even Big Banker calls it a "Visa Electron" Card

Are you saying the Barclays one does not seek authoristion  risky.

The only problem I had with the Co-Op one, is that Premier Travel Inn don't accept them. Gave them cash instead. I drive all around the UK and this is the only problem I have come across.

    It does seek authorization. Sorry.

It is not a branded Visa Electron, but it is a Visa Electron and works through the very same systems. If you're curious, go to your local Barclays and say this to a member of the floor staff: "Please open Customer Gateway and show me the card holding for my cash card account."

There you will see: "Connect (Electronic)" and your card number. If you have a cheque guarantee card, you'll be able to compare them - that will just say "Connect Card" which is our regular issue Visa Debit/Delta.
