It won't accept the A&L postcode GIR 0AA

I've tried loads of different ways of typing it without success.

Can anyone help i'm sat here and can't continue?

    Ignore me i'm a muppet :D

  • Claim filed with MCOL just now.
Followed the procedure as outlined on this fantastic website and received the standard reply on my 3rd letter.
    A&L ignored my 2nd letter!!

    Will keep you posted ;)
  • Hi every one, I have had a reply from A & L reference my second letter to them requesting money back, they have sent a letter bascially saying "No, this is in your terms and conditions". I am sure this is just a bog standard letter that they send but just wanted to check before I threaten with court proceedings.
    Hi all
Just started my online proceedings to take A & L to court cost £80 but it will be worth it in the end.
  • Have just received statements for 3 a/cs from A&L. Charges on all. Should I send one letter with the list of payments attached split into 3 accounts - or should I send three letters, one for each a/c?

Could this mean if they refuse that I might have to start court proceedings for 3 separate cases?

I am also like most of you...... I am reclaiming almost £1000 back from the robbers at A&L. I Feel My circumstances are slightly unique, I can back up the personal suffering inflicted on my health during the period of which my beloved bank bleed me dry and left me out to hang - - - AND if A&L arent careful I will be seeking compensation for this also!!!!!!!!!!!
I am just gonna quote my letter I recieved today this should give us all an idea of what we are dealing with!!

"While I understand your concerns, please be assured OUR fees are REASONABLE and COMPETITIVE with those made by other financial organisations!!

The office of Fair Trading (OFT) has commented that they consider the level of late payment fees to be unfair, however, They were actually referring to LATE PAYMENT FEES FOR CREDIT CARD PAYMENTS, which are quite distinct from a banks fee ON CURRENT ACCOUNTS.

Dicussions are ongoing between the Banks and the OFT regarding current accounts and once the outcome is known, Alliance & Leicester will review its position as appropriate.

AS WELL AS MAKING OUR CUSTOMERS AWARE OF OUR FEES WHEN OPENING ACCOUNTS, we also continue to through our website, our branches, by telephone and on the back of statements. IN VIEW OF THIS, I DO NOT FEEL THAT YOU HAVE BEEN UNFAIRLY CHARGED and Regret that I CANNOT agree to refund your fees.

If you would like to discuss any aspect our response further, please CONTACT me on the above number(08703 333 444)= PREMIUM LINE AT MY EXPENSE AGAIN!!!!!!
The enclosed leaflet explains the steps we take to deal with complaints. I will KEEP YOUR FILE OPEN FOR 8 WEEKS and if I don not hear from you by then, I will consider the matter closed.

All I can say is GO-AHEAD BIG BANK.... I WILL SEE YA IN COURT!!!! and it will be less than 8 wks. .

THESE PEOPLE ARE SO FULL OF BULL****

DID ANYONE ELSE RECIEVE A LETTER LIKE THIS?????
  • Dont hold your breathe on Alliance & Leicester.

I sent 3 letters - firstly the 1 for statements (got them on the 40th day) then the request for payment back and thirdly for going to court - then i received a letter stating they do not find themselves unfair and will only reimburse charges on credit cards. Am stuck now dunno wot to do... so ave given up.

No point in giving up now LOULOU! You need to carry on and take them to court and let the courts decide what is fair and unfair.

What do I do? I got a letter this morning and a cheque for £180, quite a difference from the £950+ £200 odd interest from Alliance and Leicester. Its says the following

We believe that our charges have been made in accordance with the terms and conditions of your account, of which you have been given a copy. However, having considered the particulars circumstances of your case and taking into account the oft review, in order to resolve this matter we are prepared to refund the sum of £180

This reflects the difference between the amount of charges for unpaid items actually applied to your account and the amount of charges that would have been applied to your account if the charge had been £12. On the basis that this offer is acceptable to you. we enclose a cheque for £180 (being the amount that the oft indicated was not unreasonable in relation to credit card default charges, in full and final settlement (THIS IS A BANK ACCOUNT NOT A CREDIT CARD) if you do not wish to accept this offer please return the cheque to us cancelled or confirm in writing it has been destroyed.

Yes its a bank account not a credit card. What do I do?? I get the impression if I accept the cheque thats it, I can not persue the rest? I have filed a claim do I just let that run on or what
  • If your happy with the amount on the cheque than except, if not return it and state your after the full amount. OFT has not set a £12 limit for charges and there is a letter that states that somewhere in this forum.

It's a delay tatic eitherway and you should stick to your MCOL if you wish to send the chque back.
