Bulk LPG - Cheapest suppliers / supply route?

Here, for your collective enjoyment, are the latest wholesale figures as at 1st March.
The bulk price is down a touch, but the pound has weakened vs the dollar. The net result is there is no significant change between this month and last.
And for the masochistic (or curious), here is a depressing plot of more historical prices:0 -
Following on from my post #1886but 43ppl is such a good price in the current market for a low-volume user that I would have to view it with a degree of skepticism. At the very least, you would need to read the contract in minute detail, keep an eye on the wholesale prices and make sure you stand your ground if you get hit with a large and unjustified price increase. But then again, that's good practice with any LPG supplier, no matter how much you trust them
Well, I've read and re-read the contract and have bitten the bullet and gone with Avanti.
The Welsh machinery group promised two quotes, but none appeared, so I've accepted the Avanti 43ppl
I will keep you informed!0 -
Just bought a house in Nottinghamshire and am new to LPG - found LPG Solutions who were very helpful and explained everything to me. Tank was with Flogas but previous owners paying over 60ppl. LPG solutions arranged for Avantigas to take over the supply at 44ppl with a fix for 6months.
having read these posts i cant believe people will pay such high prices.0 -

Welcome to the forum.
Hmm, first post and you are telling the forum about the wonderful deal that LPG Solutions got you.
Pardon me if I suggest that your post reads like an advertorial.
And pardon me again for suggesting that your deal through LPG Solutions really isn't so good...since johnnybebad2000 (here) posted a few days ago that he got 42.4 ppl fixed for 12 months from Avanti. That's much better than your deal of 44 ppl fixed for only 6 months.
Maybe LPG Solutions needs to hire johnnybebad2000 - or even J B who got 43 ppl fixed for 12 months from Avanti?
A pity you didn't get quotes and post them on the forum for people to comment on - as many have done. Including usage (which you don't mention), location of tank (ditto), ...
But if you are a genuine user, I apologise for my suspicion.

Calor just phoned having seen my 'resignation' notice.
They offered 45p fixed for 9 months with £100 of free gas
Maybe I should have done my sums, but I told them they were too late!0 -
Although these prices are different I would say both are good prices in comparison to a lot of prices mentioned on the site. Like most suppliers it seems that location is a key thing as well as your volume, although some seem to pluck prices out of the sky without even asking what volume you are or indeed anything
Anything under 50 pence is good, I would advise everyone to shop around if you dont ask you dont getLittleVermin wrote: »Welcome to the forum.

As with all things "LPG", a large dollop of skepticism can only ever be healthy0 -

Hi all - just home from the NEC and our annual pilgrimage to the 'Homebuilding and Renovating Show'
Anyway, we happened to come across the Avanti Gas stand and I just wandered on and picked up a free penand was immediately approached by the two members of staff who showed me their special show offer which was 42ppl, fixed for two years.
I said that they were shooting themselves in the foot as they had quoted 43 fixed for 12 months.
Without any further exchange the lady there said that she would amend my contract to the 'show special' if I requested.
I snapped her hand off0 -
Hello. My first post & I hope it gives some folk usefull info. I am relatively new to the world of LPG but signed up with Calor last August...43ppl (+5% vat for georgie boy the chancellor) fixed for 1st year & with £150 cashback on first delivery. Rep told me that at the time, 43ppl was the staff price also so I guess it would be very tough to beat that. Year 2 will go up so I am remembering to fill the tank just before Year 1 finishes (diaried it). Then at end of year 2, I will negotiate a good deal again or give notice to move to another supplier.
Usefull facts & info :
Pay by Direct Debit against a Santander 123 current account & santander will give you 2% cash back.
Each litre of gas => 7.08 Kw. 43p/Ltr + 5% VAT less 2% Santander 123 Direct Debit discount => 6.25p per KW which is not bad really but still quite a bit more expensive than mains gas.
Hope this helps

their special show offer which was 42ppl, fixed for two years.
Sounds like a cracking good offer.
Either that, or they can see something in their crystal ball that suggests prices will stabilise, or even fall, over the next couple of years (I doubt it).
Or they have a flexible interpretation of "fixed".
Based on personal experience, I would bet on the latter. I had a devil of an argument with Calor over the detail of their contract a few years back, but was eventually able to convince them of the error of their ways.
From a few things I have heard lately, I have a gut feeling (I hope I'm wrong) that Avanti may be moving towards the Flogas business model: Make an offer that is just too tempting to refuse, then wind the price up as far as possible. Based on the fact that very few people probably bother to read their contracts fully (let alone understand them), and that everyone knows energy prices are soaring anyway, I suspect only a handful of customers actually challenge them if their prices start creeping up. And taking the hit on the few is worth it to the supplier, considering the many who will just shrug their shoulders, accept the situation as the supplier tells it, and end up paying way over the odds.
However it turns out, I'm sure you'll keep us fully informed.
Fingers crossed, your reports will all be positive0
