I know a lot of the time I recommend the Country Inn & Suites when people want something affordable outside of Manhattan. Long Island City is really becoming the place to stay just a short hop away from Manhattan.
1 Stop on the 7 Train and you're standing outside Bloomingdales.
Now, there are a number of affordable hotels that have popped up in this area, some more convenient to the Subway to others.
Here is a list (and links), to the convenient ones, so if people want to stay in a nice hotel, but just not pay the tourist premium prices that you get in Midtown Manhattan, this is the list for you.

I am slowly making my way through the past 20 or so pages so my apologies if I am repeating myself!
I'm off to NYC 15th Feb for a week - staying at the Hotel Belleclaire, I've booked a standard room for 752.25 pre tax - which I didn't think was too bad?
We have been looking at several places - thank you booking.com for free cancellation, however I think that we are going to go with this hotel- unless anyone has any other suggestions?
Currently looking in to a Go Select Pass, I want to be a real tourist!
What attractions would people recommend?
Also I quite fancy going to a flea market - does anyone have any suggestions? I'm currently looking at going to the one in Hells Kitchen0 -

Really helpful list :T
As a reminder, if booking a Holiday Inn then always look for the Friends & Family rate. It takes a further $60 per night off for my dates for the HI Mark links above.0 -
Does anyone have any feedback or recommendations on helicopter or light aircraft tours?
I'm especially interested in the latter as the companies I have found give you more time in the air but I can't find any reviews.0 -
i have found the James hotel in soho for near enough 5 nights from the 27th march till the 1st april coming in at £1030. Is this a good price? has anyone stayed here and can say its worth the money?? Struggling with reasonable prices over easter!0

Yes, This is a top notch luxury hotel.
That rate is around $280 per night, so you can easily do cheaper if you look at the budget end of any hotel chain. I've recently posted a list that gives you loads of more affordable hotels just outside Manhattan.0 -
samisaba - I've done a quick search on quikbook.com and picked out some good hotels that are cheaper than your current choice, and there is plenty of choice, so I'm slightly bemused to why you're struggling.
27th March - 5 Nights. Prices below show before taxes.
St Giles The Court - $225 per night
6 Columbus - $273 per night
Ace Hotel - $240 per night
King & Grove New York - $193 Queen / $222 King
SECRET SALE - Meatpacking District - 4* Hotel King Room - $249
Gild Hall - $267
King & Grove Williamsburg - $261
Hotel on Rivington - $243
Plenty more probably too...0 -
I'm going back to New York for St Patrick's Day and got a Suite in Uptown (w80th and Broadway) for $500 for three nights. It's not a great place though luckily we only use the place to sleep so don't give a monkeys if it's not luxurious.
It can be done.0 -

A Suite? Is it at a legal hotel or an illegal apartment rental?
You really need to give a monkey's if it is an illegal apartment rental (I can't find any hotels on that street), as you could end up on the street with no accommodation, no recourse for a refund, and having to spend even more money on something legal.
Get something legal, I've listed many hotels that are available at a more budget price, so people don't have to break the law.

That price included the taxes and has good trip advisor reviews - so I guess it boils down to the area?0
