Hi blueybag! Welcome to the thread
. But I have to ask - Water? Why are you buying water?
Hope all are ok - this thread is flying this year so far.
Today dug out giant chicken (think maybe the last one we have so need to re-seduce butcher friend...) for tomorrow. Kids had fishcakes, mini waffles, rostis and peas for dinner. We are having breaded haddock, crinkle homefries and mushy peas with homemade bread - Edwardia I have no idea how you low carb the way you do - this meal is high carb very once in a while but I like that it is an option.
Small spend today on newspaper and 3 packs half price cheerios for kids school brekkies. Was proud of myself that I didn't let Tesco seduce me into spending more.... I will fight you!
More eating from stores next week coming up.:rotfl::j:T:eek: (smilies on behalf of kids lol)
3 kids(DS1 6 Nov, DS2 8 Feb, DS3 24 Dec) a hubby and two cats - I love to save every penny I can!

Had a nice day but feeling really narked off after a phone call from dad, trying to justify mam's behaviour and spinning it all round to me. Can't be arsed with them. There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.0

Cleaned out the food cupboards tonight, so this is what I'm working with...
Tinned tomatos
Tinned sweetcorn (best before Oct 2003, but I'm figuring that if the tinned food that Scott of the Antarctic took with him is still edible, then this should be too:rotfl:)
Tinned soup
Packet of polenta
Mexican rice (6 packets - must've been on special offer)
Packet of risotto
Straight-to-wok noodles
Pickled veg with lily flowers
Arriabata sauce
Red curry paste
Lasagna bechamel sauce (BB Sept 2002!)
Pesto sauce (5 jars, must've been on special offer too)
Veg stock (2 pouches)
Berbere paste
Mexican spice rub (both by Gringley Gringo, now no longer in business and sadly missed)
'Magic Cook' prawn sauce mix
'Fragrant Spice Complex for Magic Spicy Stewing' (probably makes more sense in the original Mandarin)
porridge pots (that's a few breakfasts sorted out)
Dried guava
Peach coulis
Mexican honey
popping corn
Spanish chocolate (the best drinking chocolate, but boiling the milk is such a faff)
Almond essence (BB March 1995, guess I must've been into baking at the time and forgot to use it)
White wine vinegar (BB Feb 2002, Safeway own brand which shows how old it is! Must've bought it for some now-long-forgotten reason)
Wakame (seaweed soup mix, can't stand the stuff, like drinking seawater - was bought for me as a joke)
Tub of wasabi-covered somethings (could be peanuts, could be peas - don't know)
and last but not least...
'Tasty Turnip' (pickled turnip with chillies, two pouches which I can't even give away - I've tried:laugh:)
Any and all recipe suggestions welcomed, particularly for the more oddball ingredients:T

I am doing quite well eating out of the cupboards though I still have loads of wholemeal bread flour to get through.
To start with I am going to try and see if I can make cakes with some of the flour by sieving some of the bran out of it and adding some baking powder. I am going to try and make some welsh cakes to begin with.
If anyone has any other ideas for the bread flour I would be pleased if you could let me know. Not Rachmaninov

wow you lot have had a busy week! That'll teach me to not post for 6 days :rotfl:
Anyway congrats to those dieting, I really should be but my heads not quite in the right place yet, and we still have christmas chocs left so no point til they have gone
Good luck with jobs too, seems like its a bit of a nightmare jumping through jobcentre 'hoops' to keep them happy.
Did a shop in Mr Ms on Monday night, and they were reducing bread so not only did I fill my freezer, I also filled mum and dad's!!!! Well I could hardly leave packets of 6 bread rolls at 9p each just sitting there now could I?! (got muffins and croissants too shhhh!!!)
But I did spend less than usual, and I have not been in any food shops since so nearly a week is quite a record!
I have got through quite a few bits of stuff this week, apart from the bread, my shop was quite a sensible one, and I bought quite a lot of stuff to match with what I was already (hoarding) storing in my cupboards, so things are actually improving!
Enjoy the rest of the weekend :beer:mortgage £800 overpayment 2022. £600/£2400 2023 🙂 savings £1853/£1800 😊0 -
Jelly Biactol - you must win the award on this thread for the most unusual and out of date food!!
Lip_stick - cut the phone off (with the excuse you can't afford it) - nearly did this myself at xmas..
Frogletina - I'd just half and half it with white flour for bread. I find it heavy going using it 100% in anything.
Just had another portion of pasta with peppers, rocket and stilton - liked it more tonight. Just as well seeing as I will have it tomorrow for the 3rd night in a row.
Looks like we won't get snow till Monday now0 -
Evening all.
blueybug - welcome and good luck with the budget. Nice to see you enjoy the savings side of things, it can be a nice challenge when things go your way.
Jelly Biactol - thanks, just following on from last year but without a main budget. January is £60 max month to try and clear a freezer before the end of March and get rid of Xmas stuff.
You've got a rather interesting stash. lol
I'll have to get the porridge on the go again, thanks for the reminder.
I did spend today, so budget up a little.
Popped into a small Asda and bought 5 packs of pasta, on offer @ 50p = £2.50. Pasta for a while and an investment (Napolina).
Sainsbury's, bought a prawn biryani for hubby @ 79p (in freezer) and a small loaf for the birds @ 19p = 98p
2 x menthol sweets from Home Bargains @ 19p = 38p
Spent today = £3.86.
Also got a few light bulb bargains @ 10p and 13p in Sainsbury's and 2 large foil turkey trays for 10p - put away for Xmas .................... less than 50 weeks away now. :rotfl:
More wrapping paper from Asda for 20p and 25p per roll, some is just plain gold or plain silver, so will do for other pressies.
My bird seed I got from Tesco is on it's last legs now, so need to look out for a cheap bag. I can get 20kg bags for £10 or less, so might treat them. Always on the lookout for cheap bread and got some fat balls from Home Bargains for 49p (I don't count bird food in budget apart from bread as sometimes I pinch a few slices. lol).
Took out what I hope are chicken breasts for tomorrow, but think one is a turkey steak - I must label better this year when I start buying again!!
2013 spends on food so far = £18.63

I have to say that Jelly biactol you even beat me for out of date food. I think I ditched a couple of 2008 things a couple of months back but have plenty 2009 onwards... but 2003? hmmmm actually they are probably fine but glad it is you not me lol!
We have an ongoing mission now hubby is waiting for work (he has been redeployed as of Friday and who knows how long before more work comes in..) to sort out the garage which contains lots of food and other debris! Who knows what we will find but will make for some interesting sessions in the kitchen - cooking of course!!3 kids(DS1 6 Nov, DS2 8 Feb, DS3 24 Dec) a hubby and two cats - I love to save every penny I can!

Kitty-ears - huge congratulations on getting a first - sorry about the mess up and hope it is all sorted out soon for you.
Oh thank you so much! The iPod my parents bought for me finally turned up today after yodel "misplaced" three of them. My NMC pin, confirmation letter and uniforms haven't turned up but I can not be dealing with worrying about them now!
Just taken out from belly pork to roast tomorrow. Planning to cook it in my slow cooker, any ideas? Nothing fancy please!
Used up the rest of the salad tonight for wraps. Nearly tempted by a chippy but it's so cold out there!
Shop at Tesco tomorrow for fruit, veg, milk and kitten things. We don't have a tesco here, so driving to the next city to go. Frankly sick of ASDA; bought a chicken - goes rotten, all veg and fruit tastes odd and goes rotten after a day. Need something new!Now I am employed, lets get rid of this student debt!0
