  • Does anyone know the best/easiest place to get canvas pictures done? I've had some pics of the kids done as a surprise & have the pics on disk & wanted to use one of the images to get a canvas. Can you just send the pic off to somewhere like vistaprint or is it better to take it somewhere to get done? I'm concerned that the image quality might not be great if I just email the pic. Any tips would be greatly appreciated :)

Me too! Festive spirit is a state of mind and has nothing to do with family status.

I do hear people say that Christmas is 'just for kids' or 'all about the kids' but I think that's a real shame. Each to their own but I can't help feeling sorry for those who see it all as a chore or somehow not applicable (religious beliefs aside of course).

For the second year running one of my friends has made comments on how weird it is that I love Xmas so much.

This is purely down to the fact that I have no children.

Last year I mentioned how much I was excited about Crimbo and she just said straight out 'what, even though you've got no kids?' Then just last weekend I said again I'd been watching Christmas 24 and was trying to hold off on listening to SmoothXmas full time and she said something like 'you're the last person anyone would think would be excited by Christmas, having no kids you know'.

Now I am child free by choice so it wasn't that she was being insensitive about my status in life, but I just find it quite sad that someone like me should be expected to be all bahhumbug about it.

Anyone else have this kind of thing? I will admit, I love the run up to it and the day but by Boxing Day I'm just enjoying have a rest and it's all over for me, which is what I did say to her. But is it so odd that I get all festive and love the atmosphere and the build up and the music? :( I'm single too so actually I wake up on crimbo morning on my own but that doesn't stop me either. :D

In fact maybe it's cos I am on my own that my expectations will not be dashed eh?

What a funny thing to say! I don't think it matters if you have children or don't have children, if you have the Christmas spirit in you then you'll love Christmas no matter what your status is! I don't currently have any children and I love Christmas to bits! My OH isn't as into as I am, and he often says that he'll get more excited if we ever have children, but nothing will stop me being a Christmas nut even if I don't have children! :T
  • Just wanted to share a super easy chocolate truffle recipe I just tried - would be great for a home made hamper!

    Sooooo easy...
200g dark chocolate (cheap is great!)
    200ml double cream

    and that's it!!!!

Gently heat the cream but don't boil then break up the chocolate and pour the cream over to melt it - stir well then put into the fridge to set.

Remove from the fridge and shape into truffles - roll in cocoa powder or hundreds & thousands (anything really - nuts / choc shavings etc etc)

You can also add 50ml of Baileys or creamy choc liqueuer but leave out 50ml of the cream - I am making a batch with white choc and choc orange liqueuer this afternoon and hope that works too!

Soooooo simple but have the texture of the inside of a Lindt choc ball - yum!!!

Anyway hope someone may like this recipe - I do!!!

  • totally agree wth everyone, you dont need to have children to love Christmas! when it was OH and me before we had the children, I still stocked up lovely food and put a lot of thought into gifts etc, there is no reason you shouldnt enjoy it all SandC!

the older I get the more amazed I am by the things people say to each other, maybe I shouldnt be suprised but I always am!

my Mum always goes on about it just being for the kids, but I think it's for all family and friends regardless of their age, hell I love a Santa/Reindeer/Sleigh decoration, adore Polar Express and anything along those lines, the whole magical spirit of it all is wonderful, real life can be grim at times for everyone, why would anyone begrudge us loving sucha magical time, give them a jar of humbugs and a Grinch mask! x

I have Rudolph sat beside me on my desk as I type ...
  • Mi55Piggy they sound lovely, thanks for posting! in S'burys they have tubes of red, green and white hundreds and thousands in the baking aisle, think they were 99p? they are tiny ones like beads - got some to sprinkle on my gingerbread christmas trees

SandC you could try coming back at your friends with 'I think it's wierd that you DONT get into the whole Christmas spirit ... but I was too polite and non judgemental to say so!'

Hi all , what do you think............

I want to up-date/change my xmas tree I little. I want to to look like it has snow on the tips , so instead of spending loadsa dosh on a new one I was thinking I could set it up , get a spray can of white paint and run round it in some kind of frenzied dance spraying whilst I go................. :D

Thing is do you think this will make the tree a fire hazzard with the heat of the lights etc ?

If so what else (other than spray snow as cat tries to eat it) could I use do you think that isn't a fire hazzard or poisonous ?

    Thanks :)

Edit..........SAND-C ..............I get this all the time and it wasn't my choice not to have kids so sometimes I could quite happily clobber them one. I love xmas too and think it is for everyone , an adult that thinks it's only for kids in my opinion has lost a part of their zest for fun and imagination (as well as bbbeing a boring fart). Sometimes I tell them I'm glad I'm not as miserable as them.
Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.

    Here here!

I'm afraid I don't know if the spray is any good for the tree or not but I definitely love the sound of the frenzied dance! :D

Ooh, that truffle recipe sounds gorgeous - thanks for sharing. I actually have some 'cheap' Baileys in the cupboard that I'm probably not going to use so might try it with that :)

I don't have kids either and don't think it means you can't enjoy Christmas. We used to do the big family organised day and when we moved and found it hard to get back (pets, jobs, money, etc) then I did find it really strange at first to have a smaller xmas with just OH. But it's quite nice to be able to just do what you like when you'd like to do it :) Saying that I'm spending it with family again this year so will be back to organisation lol!
