There are fab bargains to be had in the UK, especially self-catering when you can make it as cheap as you want and if you get the weather, you can, in theory, have a beach holiday. The last two Mays we've been to Tenby and spent half the week on the beach. Not so lucky this year in June though :p

How long will it last opened/unopened? I buy my milk in plastic bottles with a use by date, these glass bottles with no info confuse me :o

Hi hismissus, I love Tenby, we used to holiday there every year as a family. In response to the milk question, you should be able to find a use by date embossed onto the foil caps, we always had a milkman with my parents so im used to this system. :)

Awwwww not to worry Jemma, running is SUCH hard work when you are just starting out, and it always is hard work, but when i first started running last year I found it so tiring, you will pass that stage soon so keep at it, well done with running club :T

Well done for going anyway Gemma! I was going to go out on my bike tonight but too knackered - woke up in the middle of the night last night.

Remember, you're always ahead of the guy on the couch!

That's me. And yes Jemma is winning the race at the moment.

Oh my I have dropped off the face of MSE for a week haven't I oh no!!! I am really sorry :( I'm in a massive money panic due to overspending on fabrics, sewing machines, scrabbling together money for flights, hotels, car rentals. I've put myself further into debt, but until I see how much I get paid for the masses of overtime I did last month, I'm not sure how much further back I've put myself...I think I have been hiding so I don't have to tell you all :( sowwwy!

I am off to Canada on Friday and shall return on the following Saturday/Sunday. I get a 3 day holiday from it because the flight jumped from £700 - £1500, so the 3 days extra was cheaper even with the hotel costs.

There's also been issues with my housemate having panic attacks and ambulances being called...last week I found her collapsed on the floor, yesterday she was acting hysterically and faked a fainting to try to get us to call one....all very stressful at home :(

Anyway... everyone should be able to do this weeks challenge, and well done to all those that have been doing the challenges and I hope you're all finding them useful.

    This weeks challenge: 10 things

Make a wishlist. Write down ten things you will be able to do when you are debt free, that you cannot currently do due to the noose around your neck (which is of course getting thinner!).

    My wishlist:
    1. Go on holiday without worrying about how I can afford it
    2. Not having to worry about how I'm going to pay for work expenses
    3. Not having to worry any longer
    4. Reduced embarrassment about money
    5. Starting to save for a house
    6. No more red letter days :(
    7. Learning to have the save/reward rather than reward/guilt.
    8. Not being a slave to consumerism
    9. Not having to say "no I'm skint" and instead being able to stay in or go out based on whether it's a nice location or not ;)
    10. Using my new MSE skills to build a future instead of paying off the past.

    Interesting wishlist Kerri :T

Here's my wishlist, off the top of my head as I've never actually really written down my thoughts before.
    1. To be able to look Bank of Mum & Dad in the eye.:o
    2. To be able to eat out more often.
    3. To be able to start overpaying the mortgage.
    4. To be able to undertake self improvement (learn a musical instrument/pony trekking/learn a new language)
    5. To be able to increase savings and retirement savings plan.
    6. To be able to have more trips away.
    7. To be able to start our next building project.
    8. To be able to finish both building projects.
    9. To sell building projects and downsize.
    10. Hubby to be able to retire.
To live happily and healthily forever after.

Made the minimum payment to DH's CC today so:

    #084 £9564 / £58000

    :j

Kerri, what a great challenge!! I will try off the top of my head too before I get swayed by anyone elses...
    1) To take the boys abroad for the first time next year (and myself for the first time in years, natch!)
    2) Have another child without fear or guilt about finances
    3) Move house for a bit more space and to a less overcrowded area
    4) Buy people decent presents at Christmas and birthdays
    5) Enjoy a full social life
    6) Be more cultural, more trips to different cities, to the theatre, cinema that isn't the kids £1 showing etc.
    7) Start my own business
    8) Leave work to be with kids and focus on new business
    9) All of us join the lovely health club/gym/pool again
    10) Not spend all my waking hours online looking at ways to save or make money, working, selling on ebay, staring at my spreadsheet willing the numbers to go down etc which also makes me feel guilty :o

  • His Missus - if there's no date anywhere on the milk, you can go by your sense of smell -if it smells off, don't drink it and if it smells OK, you'll be alright :rotfl:.

Recurrent-Ostrich - that's a great idea about the holidays. We can't afford to go anywhere this year and so will have two weeks off in the summer hols and just be going on day trips to places my boys want to see but have never been before - I got them to write a list. We may have a couple of days in London too if I can get it cheap. Re caravan hols - we had a week at Ruda Bay in Devon a few years ago and it was a great place - it had a chilled, cool, surfer vibe about the place (not like a 'holiday camp' at all).

Kerri - thanks for challenge, I will get my thinking cap on. Last week's was an epic fail as the pile of paperwork is still there but it's on my 'to do' list :o. The saving money on bills challenge was a success though, as I managed to save £66 on house insurance and then could use this saving to pay for the leaking pipe £65 so a £1 up :j.

  • My bucket list for when we're debt free:

    1. Hubby & I will be able to go out for dinner occasionally.
    2. To take the kids to see a show in the West End.
    3. To go to Australia to visit my cousin and his family.
    4. To move to a bigger house, or extend this one.
    5. To not have to check the bank account daily, as soon as I get to to ensure we haven't gone over our limit.
    6. To be able to pay cash for things instead of on the never never.
    7. To have SAVINGS (instead of the £30 I move in and out of the emergency account every month!)
    8. To be able to go on lovely holidays without feeling guilty.
    9. A new kitchen!
    10. To not have to lie awake at night worrying about how we're going to pay for Xmas/Birthdays/unexpected bills.
