Re baking tins: Try Morrisons or Tesco. I got a round tin from Morrisons a few weeks back and very good price. Or could you aks any friends or neighbours if they have one you could borrow? That would eb the cheaper option :D

Earlier on this thread several people said any tin would do, for example one which used to have biscuits or sweets in it. A Quality Street tin would be a lovely shape.

It says 12 cupcakes, and comes with the cases. You'll need 250g butter, 3 eggs, an orange plus anything you'd want to decorate them with. I was going to buy this (already bought the cake mix last weekend) but the instructions tab lists the exact ingredients and I already have them all in, so might make my own version.

thank you, I think I'll do the same as I've already got the ingredients and I think it will work out a fair bit cheaper :)
  • We baked ours today- its looks and smells yummy, roll on christmas eve when we can eat it!

We picked up a new cake tin last week at the same time we picked up the cake mixture, its one with a removeable bottom, its slighter bigger than the size they suggest (they suggest 18-20, ours is 23) but was reduced from over £8 to £4 and its seems fine.

We just cant decide whether to feed it any more booze!

Think you're right - sounds like you'd be paying £2.50 for a bit of cinnamon, sugar and flour!

I couldn't get the cupcakes. Tried in all my local stores but they only had the large cake which I bought but haven't made yet. Will do it this week.
Can anyone please post the ingredients for cupcakes so that i can have a go at making them please. I probably have most ingredients in the cupboard anyway.

My cake is in the oven now but I'm not expecting it to rise much. Fruit cakes don't tend to as they're very dense, cooked at low temperature and the only raising agents are the eggs.
  • Going to make mine today.

I found a video of Mary Berry making the cake from the kit on Tesco Real Food.
