Having looked at what's in the cupboard and freezer and considering I'm away for a few days next week I've decided to do an essentials only shop on the weekend. This means hopefully spending about £10.
So far the only things I can think of that are needed are...
dog food (about £5)
small milk
an onion
maybe shampoo and conditioner (see how the bottle goes)
bit of fruit
We'll see how it goes......0 -
A total of £6.79 in spends and 1 NSD since I last checked in. I'm almost starting to believe we can make it to the end of the month within budget, although it'll be tight. I'm trying to focus on using stuff from the freezer and stash - but haven't been doing well on fresh fruit and veg. So I'm avoiding buying more of that unless I have a specific use for it planned and ready to go - no whoopsies, no 'to have some fruit available', because the stuff has just not been getting used up, and I hate to waste it. Still inundated with apples, so if I haven't thought of anything else by the weekend, I'll be making crumble and/or pies.
Rather late to add my six pen'orth on these, but:
Quintwins: I often freeze stir fry veg. I just transfer it into a freezer bag, get as much air out of it as possible, and chuck in the freezer. It will release quite a bit of liquid when you cook it from frozen, but if you're cooking it well and stir-frying at a highish heat, it'll evaporate off as you cook anyway. And if you use a sauce as well, the lack of crispness will be even more disguised.
Cattysmum: I sat down with Him Indoors yesterday and watched Scooby-Doo Meets Batman [DVD contains 70-ish minutes, I think; a couple of good episodes, from the 1972 era cartoons - we rented it, but I've seen it in Mr S for about £3], and honestly, I can't recommend it highly enough. Plenty of haunted-house-style mysterious stuff, and lots of laughs. Well, it suited two childish people in their 30s-40s, so the kids might like it too :rotfl:Haven't done the GC since February, but a glance at the Tower of Receipts tells me I really need to get back into it... and plenty of other Challenges besides.0 -
