I was more meaning what counts as a regular - the definition quandry - rather than the moving issue.

How many people have looked at it, entered it and not one person has alerted BHG or Gilla to the fact that it is multiple entry.

See my previous post above, see, I said I'd be in trouble with the sticky police :p

I was always under the impression that multiple entries automatically counted as dailies because if they weren't flagged you'd forget to enter them. The Hello comp can be entered every 10 minutes, the Nisa comps have a 100 entries limit but it is far easier to just click on them every day than do 100 entries in one sitting.

I know people have spreadsheets/bookmarks etc etc but surely that takes far more time to organise than having these kind of comps identified separately and time appears to be a major sticking point in the compromise argument.

For sheer ease of use, it makes sense to sticky these rather than having to create your own method of remembering to enter.

Thanks very much for the offer but I will choose and use my own method if it's all the same to you.

As I stated some time ago, I would also like creative comps and effort comps stickied too, in order to allow people time to create their winning masterpiece!

I never enter the creative ones so no comment from me there :)
That ain't working! That's the way to do it, money for nothing and TV's for free ;)

Guess I'm in trouble with the Sticky Police then :rotfl:

I know you're being sarcastic but comments like that don't exactly help to diffuse the situation ;):p

Sorry :o, at the time it was posted I neither used, thought about, or even cared that the sticky's existed, so it wouldn't have crossed my mind to flag it up. From now on (provided it doesn't fall foul of the broom and get swept away) I most certainly would drop a line on the end of the thread for everyone because I am so much more aware of it now.:)

    Thank you :)

Maybe people could put their ideas forward as to what they define as a regular comp, then a poll of the most popular ones could happen.

For me, i think a regular competition is one that can be entered via the same link, with the same answer everyday/every week/every month.

I only visit the dailies sticky, so can only comment on those. So for example, Pink Wishes, Big Yellow, Gamepages etc would be in the right place, as every day you go to the same place and enter the same information.

With the Sugar comps, Cast off etc because they have different links/answers/prizes, i think they should probably be on the main board with the correct links and answers bumped each day so people get the correct info - they may be regular, but they are not the same. Chelsea Girls Company ones stay on the main board, and they are the same type as the 2 i mentioned.

I know the Nuts/WOTV etc are some of the comps causing this discussion, and i do think they should prob be on the regulars board, however, i dont see why they cant also be on the main board as well - as long as no one bumps them just to say 'you can enter this one again today' what is the harm in leaving it to be there until its natural end date takes it to Game over?

So, in my limited opinion, this is what i think the description of a regular comp is, and if we can all agree/majority agree on what a regular comp is, maybe we can stop all this counter productive discussion, because i dont know about anyone else, but it really is getting me down.

That's a perfect example of what would not want posted on the regular board. I came across it the day it was posted, looked into it and on this occasion decided I didnt want to enter so green ticked and moved on. But had it been one I wanted to enter I would have green ticked and thanked and added it to my spreadsheet. Yes certainly it could go on the sticky for the other people to see but far more people will see it by being posted on the main forum as I did. :)

Totally agree with you Nicky. Perhaps this sort of comp should be called a Hybrid. Because it has a definite end date and will get cleared to GO when it ends, it should go on the main board where most people will see it but it should also have a link in the Dailies sticky from where it can be entered "regularly"
Like you, I'm not entering this one, but if it was one I wanted to enter, I would have bookmarked it and added to my "Daily Comps" bookmark folder.
However, If it did not have a specific end date, it should not be on the main board but on the regulars board. Although this may mean that I wouldn't see it at all, as I rarely look at the regulars, I don't like the idea of "false" end dates being used.

Or perhaps we should work in reverse and define what is not a regular.
I feel there are three "types" of comp.

    1. Those that have specific start and end dates, 1 prize, 1 entry and don't need daily/weekly updates. These most definitely belong on the main board.

    2. The Hybrid comps that still have specific start and end dates but do need daily/weekly updates/entries. These should go on the main board but with links in the daily/weekly stickies.

    3. Any others, particularly if they have no specific end date or have some other "complication" should be posted on the regulars board with links in the daily/weekly/monthly stickies.

Any additional oddities can be looked at and included in one of these categories as they arise.

Well that's my considered opinion. Whatever does happen doesn't really worry me as I will spend most of my available comping time on the main board and if I have any spare time I will glance through the regulars but still keep folders in "bookmarks" for the Daily, Weekly, Monthly comps I want to do.

I didn't come across it, if I had, I would have put it onto the daily sticky so that all people working by end date only on the main boards could see it and enter as they so wished.

(I'll go and add it to the thread now)

OK I've been trying to stay out of this but ---

And there in the two post's above lies the problem behind all this fiasco it is added to the stickies on regs and a [STRIKE]certain[/STRIKE] BG comes along and moves the post over to the Regulars board and the vast majority of compers miss out on entering it and the original OP gets upset because the post has been moved :(

if the post is left on the main board more people will see it and they will also note that you can enter more than once and add it to there bookmarks

if a link is sent to the regulars to add to the stickies people who comp by end date or like to enter comps more than once will be able to find it in the stickies

the post only becomes a problem when a BG decides to move the post over to the regulars board (note the operative word board people are getting mixed up between the Regulars board and stickies) you may ask so why do they do it?

you would have to ask them!

they will probably say that they are only following the guidelines but then it is also there job to ensure the smooth running of the boards so which should come first following the guidelines or the smooth running of the boards and keeping everone happy?

people have stopped sending links to the stickies because they know that if they do the post will be moved to the regulars board and the vast majority of compers will miss out

I think that the problems that we are having now is not how a comp is defined but where it is posted and whether the comps should be posted into a board that doesn't work (note the operative word again board) the stickies work and bhg Gilla and pp are doing a fantastic job in maintaining them but the Regulars boards don't

Do you mean keep them ones in the dailies sticky (so that they're easily findable for people that work in end date view) but have them on the main board instead of the regular board?

I don't so much actually have a problem with where the comps are posted as such, just the need for them to be sent to the relevant sticky as they're posted/discovered otherwise more people will miss them (just a different group of people instead).

I'd prefer them all on the regulars board, more for clarification reasons than anything else, so everyone knows exactly where to post something that has a multiple entry, but I'm not totally against the idea of them being on the main.

    Me too!

I just wanted to say that before I took over the daily sticky, I did use it everyday, but I didn't use the links (I still don't use the links after I've inititally posted them!) I've got the links direct to the sites bookmarked and on my spreadsheet, and also on my spreadsheet I've got the links to the threads that are updated with answers each day so that I can thank them, I used it as a reference point and a timesaver so that I could see the new dailies at a glance without having to go through all of the pages posted that day.

Would that work for others? (Regardless of where it's decided that the comps are posted.) Just to be able to scan through and go 'oh yeah, that's one that's been added today, I'll add it to my bookmarks and/or spreadsheet'?

Please keep the thread on topic and stop the bickering and in-fighting please:)

Out of interest i would say that the ITV comps are to be posted on the main board as these are not daily/weekly/monthly as they are posted once per week, different comp/prize etc.

Regulars to me have always been threads that are to win the same prize every week/month.

I've mentioned this a few months ago but now seems an apt time to mention it again:

ITV You've been framed competition: SAME link, SAME prize, different answer each week
Posted separately each week in the main part of the forum. (1, 2, 3)

Focus DIY car competition: SAME link, SAME prize, different answer each week
Posted as one thread in the regulars section (link)

In theory both should be posted in exactly the same manner. Just depends which people preferred. (Personally I prefer the way the ITV YBF ones were posted)
