Putting questions on the sticky tend not to get much notice it is usually better to start a new thread, less people look at the stickies generally.
Now one answer is possibly to use Microsoft Security Essentials, or it seems that Avast and Avira are quite favoured on this forum too. I haven't used either yet but both get fair reviews.
    Edit add
Also use other malware tools such as Malwarebytes and Sppybot Search and Destroy (without Teatimer realtime)

Yes, as debitcard stated; and the brilliant Avast for me also. This thread you might wish to peruse also (but disregard what I said of Comodo firewall; from particular readings of late, not necessarily on this forum, I'd be reluctant to install it).

Rik, mistakenly (my error Lol) I lost the links (I had previously tagged in FF I'm sure:o) but I will do my best to find and get back to you. Please everyone, this is a just a personal choice on my part - not to install - but the gist of the debate, as I recall, centered around one of Comodo's 'resellers' and that reseller initializing purchases from Comodo users for what was essentially a bogus anti-spyware program. There was claim and counter-claim. But for me, the damage is done. It's not a program I will be installing anymore; and I repeat it's a personal choice.

If it works for you, then great ...but for myself Trust and Security go heavily hand in hand. Sorry I can't be more exact, and if I do find the source(s) I will post here. And remember, this is the Internet (Lol): one source could be someone else's rumor-mill ;). But I will not be installing from here on in..
  • Have I posted my virus logs on the right page? Don't know what to do now. Also I asked what 'springs.datafile missing or corrupted' means. Have you any idea, and can I get rid of it?

    Youve done fine :)

In that logfile it says it removed some trojans

because of this im afraid we need to delve a little deeper

    Please run COMBOFIX
    http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe
    Shut down your anti virus
Follow the simple instructions it gives
Post the COMPLETE log it creates here (Split into sections if need be)

If it comes up with a RENAMING error then RIGHT click the exe file and RENAME and call it QWERTY (Making the complete file name 'QWERTY.exe') Or SAVE as 'QWERTY' on download

  • Don't understand a word of what you've said - it's gone right over my head, but I'll give it a go and take it one step at a time. Not tonight though it's a bit late.(or early, depending on your point of view!). Thanks for your help again. I'm sure I'll be able to follow it - slowly.

Keeping all the software on your system up to date can be a bit of a chore, but it is important as it reduces the likelihood of getting a virus. I recently found a simple way to do this, if you go to the website filehippo dot com you will see at the top right a link to "download our free update checker". If you download, install and run this it will show you all the out-of-date software on your machine (you will be surprised!) with links to pages where you can download the latest versions. You should get into the habit of running this occasionally to keep everything up-to-date. Don't forget to also visit the windows update site if you have not set this to update automatically.

Secunia PSI does a similar thing, but it monitors constantly as runs a scan weekly which tells you what needs updated so no need to remember to scan.
