Righto running a bit low on milk as always but trying a few tips from here this week so will get some UHT tomorrow as the one I had in my store was actually quite ok in coffee
Only need 2 x cut loaves as we are eating mainly homemade bread/rolls/fruit loaves/buns etc :j Really pleased with how well the kids have adapted to these instead of shopbought stuff..I worked it out somewhere a bag of bread flour 63p,bag of value sultanas 42p,1 1/2 sachets of yeast approx 4p,bit of butter approx 10p,dollop of spice approx 10p,dollop milk powder approx 5p,makes a total of approx 36 buns for a grand total of £1.34pexcellent!!
Need strawberries as always but thats about it really I think!
Forgot to add running total so far for 36 days shopping is.....£41.23p (plus my french bread tins shhh...)0 -
i ordered my french loaf tin's. i got it from ebay. ok the item was dearer but worked out cheaper on postage. ( see how tight i am , lol)
anyway whats the best recipe to use please. i do have a bread maker. it not top of range one as it over 5 years old now, but i can make dough in it.0 -
Morning jcr I found the normal panny dough came out lovely (not too crusty)
Recipe as follows
1 tsp yeast (sachet stuff)
1 lb 2 oz strong flour
1 tbspn sugar
1 oz butter
2 tbspns milk powder
1 1/2 tspns salt
300 ml water (I use 250 cold and 50 warm;) )
Comes up great whatever machine its made in I have made it up in both the Morphy Richards machines I have
French Sticks recipe (for a crustier finish)
1/2 tspn yeast
9 oz strong flour
1 tsp sugar
1 tbspn milk powder
1/2 tsp salt
160 ml water
When you get the dough out after punching it down you roll it out to approx
10" x 3 " then roll it up longwise like a swiss roll.

morning D&DD and everyone:)
gave ds3 his clay bath for the first time last night. he wasnt that impressed but then wouldnt get out afterwards lol, i noticed he was much calmer afterwards, normally 5pm until bedtime is his most aggressive time of the day.
have done pretty much all my chores in the house this morning, so i might do a spot of baking in a mo...after a nice cuppa!
have put my meat order in as well as my usual fruit and veg, that will arrive on wednesday. am getting my thinking cap on trying to come up with ways to stretch the meat as far as possible!!!!November NSD's - 70 -
The hats are great D&DD. Is there anything that you can't turn your hand to?
Poor DS2 is ill in bed still with a really nasty cold. He ate something yesterday, though so must be through the worst of it. He actually reminded me that doughnuts still want making so I'm off to load the BM before he wakes and starts hinting again.
Freezer still needs filling but not much money to buy ingredients until 29th when I get paid so I think I'll do a store cupboard list and hope I find some nice suprises like everyone else. Not holding my breath, tho. :rolleyes:AUGUST GROCERY CHALLENGE £115.93/ £250

Morning cheerfulnesslol I am a sewing machinist by trade so I have a head start there..Comes in very handy!!
Sorry to hear your DS is poorly hope he's on the mend now.I like playing nursemaid to my lot when they're off as its 1-1 time we don't often get together:o sounds like he'll be keeping you busy with your baking tho lol
It does help to make a list I think, sometimes things seem to jump out at you when its all down in black and white.0
