Hi Vic, if you want to be included in the 5lb challenge then copy the latest list and paste it into a new post, adding your name to the end of it. Its to lose 5lb between 7th April and 7th May I think.
You shouldn't have any problem with that target tho as you're considered a pro at this weight loss game!0 -
Can I join the weight loss challange too please? This is the first time I have posted on this thread; I have been a regular lurker though and am very inspired and impressed by all your losses.:T
I have been going it alone with a healthy eating plan but getting nowhere fast. I have lost a measly 9lb in 6 weeks despite increasing the excersise I take and decreasing the calories.
I wonder if I would be better off following a plan? Optimising? Atkins? Calorie counting? Does anybody know which gives the best sustainable results fast?
I suppose that is a very silly question. If one diet suited all you'd all be following the same plan but I am interested in opinions and the reasoning behind them.

We are all following a healthy eating WW or SW or just cutting down, me personally it is no processed foods, high calories, no biscuits, pies, pastry, bread (oh yes nimble wholemeal) plenty of soups home made, fish, tuna, sardines, eggs, just salads, lots of the good stuff and nothing whatsoever of the bad stuff.... no coffee just loads of water...0

Welcome Play2day. 9lb in 6 weeks is a good result and you should be proud! Well Done. Slow and steady does it, and it is more likely to stay off that way0

If you dont mind being bored to death, I'll give you a short history.
Always had a problem with my weight, but keep it more or less under control, but now finding it harder than ever, normally a 16/18. When I was 25 I had a spell under the dietician, to lose weight I had to go down to 800 calories, ............ Now 30 years and a child later, 18/20 hate to think what calories I need to get down to as there is s*d all to play with at 800.
Any ideas?
DG
Hi donny-gal
First of all Welcome, we never get bored reading other peoples stories, it certainly makes me feel 'normal', but the one thing that did suprise me was that you reduced your calorie intake to 800 as this isn't usually advised unless there is a medical necessity (just my opinion) I presume the dietitian had a reason. it would appear to me that you are quite strong willed so it's just a matter of finding an eating plan that suits you and keeping to it.
play2day Welcome to our thread and well done for losing 9lbs in 6 weeks, it's a healthy rate of loss. I calorie count because I find it easy to fit into my life-style and most foods have the calorific values on packaging these days. Also I find that I automatically choose low-fat (and therefore healthier) foods as I want the most filling foods for the amount of calories that I can consume and still lose weight.
I calculated my bmi http://www.nhlbisupport.com/bmi/ and worked out a daily calorie intake, http://www.freedieting.com/tools/calorie_calculator.htm##
There are numerous websites for these and the latter one is just one that I found whilst doing this post, but I entered in my details and the results are about right for me; some plans suggest that you eat no less than 1500 calories but I find that far too high.
I hope that this explains my method, but really you must find a plan that suits you as only you know your strenghths and weaknesses. Try as many of them as you want but when you do find one stick to it. You will have good times and bad when your resolve weakens, but keep here with us and you will find bottomless-pit of support; and if you find something that works then please let us know so that we can benefit too.
Well done Gpuk 1.5lbs :j

Hi all
The 2 pound weight loss club is for people who want to set themselves interim goals rather than being demotivated by the thought of having a large amount of weight to lose. Members aim to lose 1-2lbs each week (or whatever amount suits you), and there are no consequences if this isn't achieved - I won't bash anyone over the head, but someone will give you a boot up the bum if you want one!
I keep a chart with all the members, their result and their weight loss so far, which I update and post every Wednesday evening. If you attend a slimming class, just post your weight loss on whatever day you go and I'll pick it up for the next update. If you're going it alone, set Wednesday as your regular weigh in day and post your results and I'll include them.
Click here for the current chart.
I can also include an interim target - for example, many of us are aiming to lose 5lbs by 7th May - and show how close you are to achieving it.
No need to reveal your actual weight (unless you want to) and I don't need any evidence - there's no point in cheating, you'd only be cheating yourself!
If you want to join, you can send me an email or a PM, or just post on this thread.
Good luck
LL
p.s. in case regulars are wondering why I'm posting this, it's so that there's a copy of it in the current thread, as you can't edit posts once the thread has been locked. Honey please could you add a link to this post to your opening post - thanks.Start BMI - 38.7 Current BMI - 31.2 Target BMI - 26.30 -
Oh beanie!! I totally forgot, so I've given myself this
I feel awful because I remember your post where you were pleased when you walked 200 yards up the road. By the way, did you manage to find a way to help with you excercising? It would be so insightful.

When I was 25 I had a spell under the dietician, to lose weight I had to go down to 800 calories, and at that I played Squash (badly) once a week, and also swam. Now 30 years and a child later, 18/20 hate to think what calories I need to get down to as there is s*d all to play with at 800.

Hi Donny-gal
The thinking behind losing weight has changed a lot since you were put on a low calorie diet by your dietician. I had a similar experience, and I'm convinced it did more harm than good, because eating so little makes the body think there is a famine, it goes into starvation mode and the metabolism slows down, meaning you need less food to survive.
Everyone uses a certain number of calories each day simply by fulfilling their everyday activities, and to maintain your weight requires eating this number, eating more leads to weight gain, and eating less leads to weight loss. So really you have a choice between increasing activity levels and therefore the amount of calories used, or reducing intake of calories. This can be achieved without starving yourself by cutting down on high calorie foods such as fat and sugar, which is the basis of most diet plans, such as Weight Watchers, Slimming World, and Rosemary Conley.
Hope that helps - do check out the recipes too, by clicking on the link in the first post.
