  • Oh, this sounds wonderful ausielle ... my favourite!

    Any chance of a recipe?

    :-*

    Sure, :)

    steak and kidney

    onion

    salt & pepper

    worcester sauce

    water

cook all above, when done, thicken using bisto & cornflour

    6oz flour

    3oz suet

    pinch salt

add cold water until it's like pastry consistency

then take your pick, roll out like a pie crust or make dumplings

depending on your slow cooker, it should take between 1/2 an hour to 1 hour or so

if you use it like a crust, just becareful not to let the condensation drip onto it when you lift the lid off.

I use mine to cook joints,

just put the joint in with 1 pint water and leave,

I've got a family sized cooker and a large joint of beef will cook over 8 hrs,
    Gammon joints are especially nice

Thanks ausielle!  Just to get this right ... do you cook the meat first before you put the suet on, then it takes half an hour to an hour to cook the suet?

    Cheers,

The little one on th'argos is too small. I would get one of the bigger oval ones bcos they are so good for doing big amounts of stuff.
Simple recipe - the last thing i did in my slo-cooker recently ;D

one rabbit, skinned, gutted and cut into pieces, or whole if u like
half a bottle of white wine OR if u cant bear to do that, one glass of the really cheapest sherry then the rest made up with stock.
    half pound sliced mushrooms
    one onion chopped
whatever herbs you have in the garden but not mint!
top up with stock if you need it (of course you made it from a chicken carcas you had ;))
    salt and pepper to taste.
leave it in all day or 5 hours should b enough
eat with rice or pasta or green beans

even better if you have caught the rabbit yourself! Thats a moneysaving recipe!

I was going to ask if anyone could recommend a particular slow cooker. Is THIS one from Argos any good or would it be better to spend a bit more?

i have one thats similar sized to this, sheel, and its fine - i guess makes enough for 3 or 4 though as i'm on my own it lasts me a few days (i often do a really healthy veg one and eat it in 2 goes though!). my mum has a big oval one though and loves it. mine is just an old one someone gave me. the pot bit goes in the dishwasher though, which is a big bonus in my eyes! :)

It's up to you Sheel, but if you're cooking for a family I agree with everything Glad said and size does matter ;D ;D

I can recommend the oval one, it's the same as mine
