They offer different products, Plusnet Value is the low end product while the £12.99 product has a different traffic shape and GB of downloads. The latter has a introductory discount. Also because of OFCOM some prices depend on what exchange you are in.

It is a mess, I explained it earlier in this thread.

Partly wrong. The £6.49 then £12.99 option is for Market 1 and 2 subscribers (generally rural areas)

The £6.49 every month option is Market 3

David in your opinion you're totally right. In my opinion you're talking out your rrs.

You responded to a post made on the 5th May which said £6.49 per month for 3 months then £12.99 after that by saying it was all to do with traffic shaping and GB downloads. And you accuse me of talking over people's heads...

Here's what it says on the Plusnet website:

    http://www.plus.net/?home=hometop

If you scroll down that page to where it says 'Stuff you need to know' it explains : Plusnet Value: If you live in a low cost area it costs £6.49 a month. If you live outside one of these areas it costs £6.49 a month for the first three months, then £12.99 a month.

And hey presto! my copy and paste even contains a clickable link which explains exactly what a low cost area (or as I smugly put it Market 3) is.

And all that plainly shows that your explanation is complete BS.

Incidentally I currently pay £14.99 a month for 15GB with Plusnet because I am a legacy subscriber. In other words I'm on an old tariff. But next month I shall be on Plusnet Extra at £11.49 a month with 4 times the usage limit.
  • Hi

Just wondering if someone could help. I'm looking to sign-up to O2 Home Broadband (Premium). I'm doing this via Topcashback, which gives £70 cashback (yes, if all is tracked, etc). However, when I go to the sign-up process on O2's website, the website rejects payment, claiming that the address on the credit card and the Broadband address don't correspond. This is wrong, as they clearly do. I then tried it with another card, and same response.

Now, I called up O2, and they offered to do it over the phone, but this would mean I miss out on the £70 cashback. Is there any way I can resolve this and still get the £70? If so, how? Do I contact Topcashback? I doubt they'd be able to sort it as it's OK on their side, but I'm thinking if I tell them of the situation, and then show them afterwards that I have, indeed, signed-up, would they honour it?

Or would I be better off asking O2? Although I get the feeling they'll say they can only do it over the phone, and thus I'll be unable to get the cashback. But I mean, is there anyone (department?) I could speak to who could 'verify', perhaps, that I had tried online and failed, and as it was the fault of O2's website, they would honour the deal.

Just wondering if anyone has had similar problems in the past, and could shed some light.

    Thanks.
  • Hello,

Lots of brilliant information, but I just wondered if there was a list of the cheapest broadband available in a non-LLU area:-( It seems to make such an awful difference to the price?

    Thank you,

I keep on looking at that Plusnet charts of what can be down loaded at what speed at what time of day; and confusing myself.

My other half had developed a habit of forgetting to record a TV programme and then just watch it on her lap top.

Well a picture is worth (costs) more than 1,000 words.

At what times of day would Plusnet allow fast enough line speed to watch TV programmes?
Is it true that stuff downloaded in the early hours does not count towards the 10 Gb limit?

My "natural" line speed is 4 - 5 Mb usually.

As the deal of O2 seems to be the cheapest one regarding broadband, and you have to be an O2 customer my question is:

If you get a PAYG Giffgaff sim card (which seems to be "part" of O2) does it qualify you for the cheap broadband??

Has anyone tried? It seems that right now Giffgaff has got the cheapest prices of the market for mobile phones (regarding calls), but I am not quite sure if O2 considers giffgaff users as O2 customers?
  • Topcashback should be added to the article paragraph on cashback for Plusnet and Virgin as it curently gives the impression that the cashback is only available via Quidco whereas it is available at both Quidco and topcashback:

    Current cashback deals.

    £28 cashback with Plusnet.
Go via Quidco* and sign up for a new Plusnet Value, Extra or Pro broadband contract to get £28 cashback.

Up to £65 cashback with Virgin broadband.
Go via cashback site Quidco* and you can get £65 cashback with any Virgin triple bundle. Non cable sales command £60.

Up to £50 cashback with O2 broadband.
It's possible to earn £50 cashback on O2's home broadband by going via Quidco* or Topcashback* (more for the higher packages).

Up to £60 cashback with Be broadband.
By going through the cashback sites Quidco* or Topcashback you can get £40 when you sign up for Be Value, or £60 with Be Unlimited and £80 with Be Pro (Topcashback only).

There is no mention of what to do if you don't have an active phone line. I have a BT socket in my house, but it is not currently active as I have a Virgin TV/phone/broadband bundle.
I am moving house soon to a place without a Virgin connection, but this too has a BT socket.
What are my options? I don't really want to sign an 18 month BT contract.

I am moving house next week to a house wihout a Virgin connection, but which also has a BT socket.
What are my best options? I don't really want to sign an 18-month BT contract as it is 1) expensive, and 2) I may only be there about 15 months before moving again.
    Suggestions?

If the BT socket is active in the new house then you can use any other provider. I used Post Office homephone for the landline as they had no minimum contract and I also wanted to avoid BT 18 month tie-in. For broadband I went for BE as they had no mimimum contract at the time.
