Sticky-toffee-cheese apple crumble?

Hello wrote:
What about toffee cheese apple crumble? Does that sound nice or weird?

I've been thinking about this for a while......I thought it sounded very, very wrong at first, but now I'm not so sure.

There are a couple of recent threads here about apple crumble. I've got everything I need, but was considering using the (still uneaten!) sticky toffee cheese I've got, as I can't think of anything else to do with it, and it needs using.

How do I add the STC to the crumble? How much STC do I need (I've got plenty)? Is it just for a topping, or should it be incorporated into the crumble mix? It can't belong in with the apples, surely?

I'm a bit nervous as I've never made a crumble before, and don't want to spoil it. So, what do you all think? With or without STC for the first one?

Assistance appreciated. :T Don't know when it will be made yet, but fairly soon I think. :D

  • I think you've gone slightly mad Mr BE!!:rotfl:
But good luck whatever version you make. If the STC tastes is nice - let us all know and maybe we'll try it too.
Must go, I have made some choc. brownies and they need to come out of the oven!!
Cheers for the cooking inspiration -
Oh yeah - crumbles are dead easy -but I guess someone more expert than me will be along in a minute with much more accurate instructions than I could manage........:T

  • Hi, MrBE! You've made pastry, so crumble will be a doddle!

    Instructions for Bloke:

Using your elbow, push everything off work top. Check it's reasonably calean. Have you clean hands? If not, they will be soon! In a bowl, put 110g plain flour. Add 75g butter or hard marg. Rub in (as for pastry). Add 115g porridge oats (if you have no oats, use more flour) and 80g demerara sugar.

Peel and core your apples (900g). Slice into an ovenproof dish (you have one of these, but don't use the blackbird), sprinkle with 25g demerara sugar, 1tsp cinnamon, and 75g raisins if you have them. Place in oven at gas 4 for 25mins, until cooked (stick a knife in - are they soft?). Cover with crumble mixture and return to oven for 30-40mins, until top is golden.

Serve with custard (see instructions on side of tin/packet/carton)

Edit, sorry that cheese seems even more wrong now. Don't think it will be edible after all these weeks.

Ooo...you edited! The cheese is BBE 25/9/06, but I've just checked it and there's nothing wrong with it whatsoever. I've bought a bit more since then, too. ;)

Well, I always ask to try any new cheese in Morrisons, and this turned up last month. It looks all wrong, but surprisingly, it works.

  • MBE posted a picture on one of his other threads - someone cleverer than I will be along in a mo to point you to it, or there's a collection of all his threads here (gosh, that really should be a sticky).

MBE, I would mix the cheese in with the apples. If you are worried about the taste, try stewing one apple with a bit of the cheese. Or you could do the following.

MBE's special Sticky Toffee Cheese Apples

Take one big Granny Smith (an apple :D) and core it. (DO you have an apple corer? On a good day you can do this with a teaspoon).

YOu will now have an apple with a hole in the middle. Fill the hole with sticky toffee cheese.

Put a bit of golden syrup over the top if you like :p

Bake in a medium oven (175 deg) for 40 mins.

Let us know how it was :D
Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).

I would grate the cheese into the crumble mix. I would omit the sugar and stick to a savoury crumble. :)

Make the crumble as per PP's instructions.
Enjoy the cheese, with crackers, whilst the crumble is cooking. :)
