Regarding the $20 trick, i think a lot depends on day of the week, time of day and the mood of the check-in person. I`ve not even bothered trying our last couple of visits as bigger rooms, strip views are not that important anymore.0

To us its not just about getting better room/view, although that is great ,but about the excitement of getting to Vegas and being the first gamble.0 -
I don't think it's down to the money, but rather in the way you ask sometimes. I'm not suggesting for a second that emattuk asked 'the wrong way', but I think that certain check in staff don't take well to certain phrases. It's all about the way you ask as well as what you say, I suspect!
It'd be really interesting to pull together a list of what people actually asked for when slipping a $20 (or higher) in their passports.
I think there is a list somewhere..maybe on one of the £20 trick threads.
I always make sure they can see the $20 in my hand and ask politely, after making pleasent conversation if they have any complimentary upgrades and then depending on hotel,I will add what type of room/floor/view etc0 -
Hello all!
I've been to Vegas several times now and just arrived back home yesterday after my most recent trip. We've stayed at Sahara, Luxor, THEhotel and most recently Encore, so have some experience of different types of accommodation.
Just wanted to make people aware of the credit card "hold" for incidentals applied at check-in at Wynn and Encore as we nearly fell foul of this - they swipe a credit card and hold $150 per night for incidentals even though we had pre-paid for the room via Expedia. As we were staying for 5 nights they wanted to "hold" $750!
As I explained to the clerk, I only have a very low credit limit on my credit card they agreed to only hold $300 but we were not allowed to charge anything to the room! Kind of felt like they were holding our money to ransom a little and could have caused big problems if we had no credit card or if we were relying on the credit card for spends.
I would recommend THEhotel @ Mandalay Bay instead - similar price, excellent suites and no credit card needed for incidentals at all (provided you have pre-paid).
Hope this helps someone!0 -
SeptemberThe common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.0

MayDo you have to be staying at one of the properties to get this deal, seems cracking, especially if you choose a Sunday for a brunch
I wouldn't imagine you would need to be staying there.
The wording is a bit ambiguous, that's why I posted the actual leaflet. It states you can eat at any one of the buffets which could mean any one or one particular one.
Someone on another forum called the manager at Flavors and he confirmed you could eat at any buffet during the 24 hours.
Good call about the brunch, hadn't thought of that.0 -
Aprilhaha - first time I used crown a few years ago, the notes arrived and they were all coloured.....peach, blue, yellow......not green!!!! Noone told me the notes had all changed!!!! Looked it up on wikipedia to confirm they were pukka.
I've still got some old notes left from a trip a few years ago. Does anyone know if they are still valid too???0 -
