Sorry if I'm being a bit blonde, but can someone confirm for definite the following before I go into a Santander branch:

I have used up my ISA allowance this year. However, I can still open a Santander Flexible ISA NOW in anticipation of the next tax year, as long as I do not deposit any money in the account until April 6th.

Yes that's correct, BUT you must state in the application that it's for next year's ISA allowance by ticking the relevant box :T:T

One further question, I opened a Santander Flexible ISA a few weeks ago and deposited £5100 which is my allowance for 2009/10. Can anyone tell me whether I can add an additional £5100 to this same 3.5% paying account in April at the start of the new tax year or will I have to open a new account at the lower rate?

I don't think there is any reason why you can't deposit £5100 into the ISA next year. The interest rate is for 12 months.

No need to go into the branch. I just applied to Santander over the phone on 0800 587 2764. I had to queue on the line for about 20 mins, but I didn't mind as they were paying for the call :j It was all done in about 10 mins after that. The lady with Irish accent (UK call centre) just needed my National Insurance number. And with that she confirmed my allowance for this tax year and said I would be able to deposit another £5100 after April 6th and she opened the account and gave me my account number and sort code. She advised that I should transfer money via my existing internet bank as soon as possible (by 1st April) to meet this years deadline. She said I could deposit funds straight away if I like. Im really happy as I didn't really want to have to visit the branch. Whilst in the phone queue the recorded announcement said that Santander would also take applications over the phone on Sunday this week to meet demand.

Excellant advice! It took me about 30 seconds to get through when i rang at 3.30pm today, and barely ten minutes to set up, and fingers crossed, is all set up for paying in on 6th April.

    Thanks again.

jh2009, sam37, essexmate and other lucky people who managed to get through to santander and open the 2010/11 cash isa- can you please confirm: what was the interest rate that you will get for the 2010/11 cash isa- 3.5% or 3.2%? I went into the branch today and was told I could only get 3.2% for the 2010/11 year. Unfortunately I have used up my entire 2009/10 allowance with another isa provider so will miss out on 3.5% with santander..

They specifically said that by getting it done before Monday for the next tax year, I would get the 3.5% rate. Having said that, I tend to have a healthy scepticism for such things and await confirmation once my money is paid in next year...

Sorry, I should clarify that this is what I was told when I went to A&L, but I imagine the same rules would apply.
