A couple of years ago, before I had really figured out Bootsing and the MSE threads, there was apparently an awesome 90% off sale where not only was there a good bit left, but many people didn't know about it -- including store staff! A few Bootsers posted about it here, and others were free to run to their stores and grab items left ignored and unsigned on the shelves. Sounds dreamy. Those days are long gone as the success of MSE spreads the word so far and wide that too many people know about it for deals to last that long.

I remember that first year when I just started reading the thread, s&g products lingered long after Christmas, too. I didn't bother with them at the time. This year, all the s&g Christmas stock was gone from my local before the 50% off sale even started!

I first found out about the sale when I stumbled across it a couple of years ago it was about 11am and all the good stuff was left and hardly anyone was even near it!

I dont mind sharing the love but I think this sale has about another good 2 years before boots starts having ideas about bringing stuff in for it and getting people queuing outside at 6am!
  • What on earth are you going to do with all that stuff?
This is what I would like to know, after seeing someone in my local boots with 4 large supermarket trolleys FULL and was waiting for a phonecall from her daughter who was sent to a branch of boots at the other side of the country. Yes the same ones who I saw with 12 hat boxes only a few weeks ago. You would be lucky to break even on ebay with items so heavy and fragile like this in the longrun, I just dont get it. OK stock up for a few birthdays and treat yourself, but buying the xmas shopping for the next 5 years is also a waste of time in my opinion, you will only end up buying more.

I agree - I find it a lot slower than other websites 50% of the time. Next manage to cope when they have a sale and it must be a similar if not more amount of customers. At least they have a queuing system too so you know you will be on the website in x amount of minutes which perhaps Boots should think about.

Then the site being poor all year round is not great - to be honest I do a lot of online shopping but have never used boots online.

However, next is a store catalogue site so its easier for them to be able to give slots etc than it is for boots.

They say they have improved the website - I think we can all agree than any said "improvement" has been minimal or non-existent. Why does Next being a catalogue store make it easier for them to offer slots. Surely Boots could employ the same system. Not being rude - just IT ignorant lol
  • The lady i got said it was the first she had heard and put me on hold while she went to find out. When she came back she said the 75% stuff all sold out yesterday so they pulled the sale but then they got a delivery in last night which had some more sale stuff in it which they are putting on but they are not restarting the sale, it will remain at full price. She said they never got as much stock this year as they tried to get most of it to the stores and that some stores will also get more sale stock so worth keeping your eye peeled.

Just phoned to check on my order (knowing what the answer would be :( ), I finally got confirmation page after an hour of trying at 6am yesterday. Was up all night waiting... But later noticed no email... And correct you have guessed it, my order hasn't been processed!!! The miserable Cs person said she had already spoken to someone else with the same problem and nothing they could do. She suggested that I reorder.... No offer of points to ease the disappointment or anything. I am so, so unimpressed with Boots, I will never shop there and spend my hard earned money again. I will redouble my efforts to make the most of any glitches tho' lol.
If you didn't get an email, check your order status, mine says ??? emptied???.

Well the Elle Set is only showing if you have it in your favourites so they will be limited to the amount of people being able to see it! Don't think anyone will be buy them at full price anyway.

I agree - I don't get it either - as you say most of the items are heavy so ebaying it can't be must add a fair bit on with postage.

Quite shocked by some of the comments from other mser's saying they've had things taken out of their baskets and people had blocked the aisles and cleared the shelves.
I've never come across this before in our Boots thank god - it's all pretty civilised - there are 2 main Boots and one little store perhaps just luck or there's just less sk*nky people in my town who knows?!
  • I just wondered if anybody has been to Market Street, Manchester this morning and whether it was worth a visit still?

Because they do it by how important the customer is to them through the catalogue etc I just cant see boots wanting to go down that line.
