    • Destination: Bristol - two nights September 2009
    • Type of accommodation: four star (had no choice on the location - Bristol doesn't break down into "zones" so I couldn't follow Martin's excellent system!).
    • How many extra daily bids did you have available: Only got 1 bid as couldn't play the system, but knew from Tripadvisor that a room could be had for £38
    • How much were your 2nd/3rd etc & final bids: not used
Just booked 2 nights in Bristol for £36 a night for 2 people (£88 all in). This has saved me over £60 on the cheapest price I could find for this hotel (the Marriott:T) and saved me about £30 on the next cheapest quality hotel I could find anywhere. Thank you Martin!

    Martin's excellent system?

Have I missed something here? :p
    Gone ... or have I?

    thanks very much

So at 4* Westminster there are no Free rebids
List of likely hotels that could be won in the Westminster area (there may be others that are not on this list).

Hotwire's minimum price for your date in any London area is $119 + tax and for Westminster specifically it's $192 + tax and is possibly The Grand at Trafalgar Square Club Quarters ( with Amenities: Fitness, Hi-Speed Internet).

Calendar of wins shows that for the 11th Sept lowest wins for London has been the Hilton Kensington at $89 next lowest was the 5* London Docklands won at $100.
The Holiday Inn at Regents Park was won for $110 for dates over your period.
The 4* Jolly Hotel seems to come up in Westminster at about $90 but doesn't get good reviews.

Not your dates but an example of how someone bid for Westminster.
Notice they looked at the web-sites of the likely hotels to see what the retail prices were. Also notice the person got a counter offer.

So IMHO you may not get a 4* at your maximum bid £60=$90 in Westminster (Hotwire minimum is $192)

You may have a better chance if you widen your area.
Does it have to be Westminster?
This is a more expensive zone than, (ordered by my preferences for cheaper PL zones)
Bloomsbury, Kensington, , Finsbury, Regents Park Notting Hill, Docklands.

    One last thing.
Priceline is NOT the Silver bullet and often it could be better to look at other sites e.g. Lastminute Secret hotels or Late rooms.

Not sure if there are separate threads for Priceline and Hotwire...

I had some luck with bids this weekend, for Florida for November. We're flying to Tampa then travelling around in a circle - St Petersburg, Cocoa Beach/Melbourne, Ft Lauderdale, Naples, St Pete's beach.

    Here's my successes so far.

8-10th November (Priceline) - Renaissance Vinoy St Petersburgh downtown. £34 per night. 4*. Overlooking Tampa Bay, looks like a nice place.

10-12th November (Hotwire) - Radisson Suite Hotel Oceanfront Melbourne. 3 1/2 *. $95 per night. All rooms ocean view, so looks good!

16-19th November (Hotwire) - Tradewinds Island Grand, St Pete's Beach, 4*. $69 per night. I'm loving the look of this place, although there's a $30 resort fee, but I think I still got a great deal.

I feel extra lucky because I used betterbidding website to try to work out what I would win, and then checked reviews etc, and went for it. For each one I got exactly what I wanted, so really chuffed! This is my first shot of Hotwire, I've looked in the past, but this is the first time I've used it. I just used whichever one I thought would get me my first choice of hotel. Hotwire can be a safer bet, but I believe sometimes the same hotels can be got on priceline a little cheaper (that's when they have the same hotels of course which is not always the case).

Does anyone know the 4* in Nottingham and average successful bids for them. Unable to find anything on betterbidding.
    Thanks

Travel dates: second week of September for a long weekend

I have been bidding around £50 for a 4 star hotel in Paris on PL for the last couple of weeks as the 2 star place I had booked just outside Paris (in Levallios Perret) was costing me around £ 120 for two nights anyway. I had several bids rejected at £ 50-£ 54 in the last week- the best offer PL could come up with was at £ 70 pn.Finally I had my bid for £ 52 accepted by Rennaisance La Defense-it works out to £ 60 all in. I`ve checked travelsupermarket and the cheapest rate I could find with lastminute.com was for £ 138 pn, which gives a saving of around 60%..
