About a year ago I was in Aa JD Weatherspoons and had a piece of plastic in my bacon. "Duty Manager" insisted that it was bone but it clearly wasn't! My friend and I got offered a free drink!

In May my boyfreind and his family and I were visiting Haggerston Castle. We went to the nearest JD Wetherspoons as was supposed to be child friendly. There were 8 adults and 1 tot. The majority wanted to order steak and were told that they only had 1 left. This was a Monday afternoon, 1 day before their steak night. We proceeded to order different things to be told we don't have onion rings, garlic bread, fresh orange juice or any boddingtons! After uming and awing I decided in lasagne which was cold and one of the cheese burgers had no cheese! The only steak that was left was ordered medium-well and it was absoultly cremated! We were given refunds for cheeseless burger, lasagne and steak and were given a free round of drinks!

In Feb I booked a romantic weekend at a Ramada Jarvis hotel with lesuire facilities so we could chill and relax. Booked as "Lesuire Break" was furious when they had closed the lesuire facilities for renevation! Wrote them a polite straight to the point letter and recieved a letter back offering a free 2 night break B&B at a time of our choice to the same hotel! Hotel wasn't up to much then but i've heard its getting a revamp!

I have had some success with bad service received at some restaurants and been given some form of compensation, ie free drink or vouchers etc but I only complain if it gets really bad and spoils a night out.

My friend however is having a problem and I offered to help her but have had no luck! She purchased a tooth whitening gel from a company called "White Again Limited" who also have a website https://www.white-again.com
She got this at a stand in Reading high street a couple of weeks ago (you know the kind where they offer samples/testing and you can also buy).
When she got the gel home the packaging was open and the gel was leaking and she paid £30 but she's written to this company and they've not replied as yet. She hasn't been able to phone or email them as neither of us can find any other details for this company and their website is incomplete!

She'll be extra careful in future before she buys anything from a high street or mall stall again but in the past i've bought hair straightners and jewellry from similar stalls and never myself had a problem (touch wood!). Plenty of people where buying from the stall during the day.

I know this thread is for successful issues but thought you might have some advice on what else she can try?

Have also mentioned this on warning and rip off section of site

My complaint was genuine... how can you sell a lesuire break and close the lesuire facilities without any notice?

It's normally in the small print.

I don't think their post applied to you - was more for the likes of 'lewt' etc who might try and pull a fast one - at least that is how I read it :D

Most companies spend thousands on market research to ensure that their product is the best it can be and they do value their customers. I always complain if a product is not as it should be, and ensure I give all the details they need to 'track' the products manufacture (bar code etc). I also give feedback when something has been done particularly well, or better than expected and I'm told that this is very rare and much appreciated.

This is a technique I use when faced with companies which are clearly shirking their responsibilities under the sale of goods act etc...

Get onto the companies house website https://www.companieshouse.gov.uk and get a copy of the companies last annual report, it costs £1. You will be emailed details of the company including the directors names and home (usually) addresses.

I then write to the directors at their home address by recorded delivery. This ensures that the poor little loves have to get up in their jim jams to sign for the letter or better still go down to the post office to collect it.

Invariably I've had positive responses from this method, it sends the message that they are dealing with somebody who has enough nous to get their home details AND are peed off with their company, thus the complaint could escaltae... They usually pass it on to somebody senior in the company to resolve.

The last time I used this technique I got a £50 check from a major building society for a serious error in their admin that had taken me 5 letters to resolve.

    Hope it works for you.

[THERE WAS NO SMALL PRINT. EVEN ID THERE WAS WHAT WOULD IT SAY?!ALTHOUGH WE ARE SELLING YOU A LESUIRE BREAK WITH FULL USE OF ALL LESUIRE FACILITIES, YOU WILL NOT ACTUALLY BE ABLE TO USE THEM AS THEY WILL BE CLOSED! IT WAS PREPLANNED RENNOVATION WORK AND THEY HAD NOT TOLD ANY OF THEIR CUSTOMERS!
