My whinge worked - I sold a book tonight. Had forgotten what a Sold email looked like.Grocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01

Only essentials on Ebay/Amazon0 -
Finally got round to visiting my first car boot sale today since I started selling on Amazon - only been to charity shops before. Managed to pick up some reasonable books which will hopefully sell!! Had to wait until this evening to check their prices on Amazon, it was agony!!! Then m-in-law turned up with some of hubby's old books - all sci-fi/fantasy. Not looked these up yet, but guess these will have been reprinted so not sure if they will sell, but will probably go well on RISI I guess.
Sold a couple of books this weekend too - glad I didn't go to the post office yesterday! (No, I don't count Saturday as a working day whoever was asking in recent post - sorry can't remember who).
Sorry for the essay, but have couple of questions too...
AT - I think you have said you sell most books internationally? I have quite a number of very light books - have previously only set to sell in UK, but started to think should change to sell at least to Europe, or perhaps even worldwide to increase my sales? Interested to know what others do if no-one minds repeating themselves please?!?
FFM - the recent post re ISBNs - are you saying that if an ISBN doesn't bring up a book but you can find the book under title and author search that it is okay to sell it this way? Think Amazombie has previously said it should all match exactly? I have a book which comes up as not being listed on Amazon, so they tell me I can't sell it, but if I search under title and author, I find a listing with same publishers in the same year, with same front cover, just different ISBN. I can make a healthy profit if I list it as there are very very few copies available and it seems to be in demand at the moment for some reason. I would list it with having a different ISBN naturally, but worried from what Amazombie has previously said (and sorry if it's not you Amazombie) that Amazon might pull the listing/do whatever it is they can do!!

Hi Bella, - I offer all of my light books worldwide, even if they don't look very probable, I assume that there are expats as well as foreigners that look at amazon.
The actual posting is no more bother than posting to just UK only, the only snag is making sure that the allowance covers the actual postage costs0 -

My cut-off for selling internationally is generally 540g (including packaging), that way you do not lose on the postage. Unless it is a very profitable book and then I might offer it internationally rather than lose a sale. So, if a book is only listed at £2 and weighed 700g I would only offer it to UK. But if it was listed at £20 and weighed 700g, okay postage would cost £7.23 to USA and Amazon would only give me £5.86, I would rather make the sale and a small loss on postage.AMAZON SELLERS CLUB member 0077 come and join us :hello: make some space and get hold of some cash, we're on the ebay and other auctions, car boot and jumble sales board.0 -

I think so long as you state that the title, author, publisher and date are correct - but ISBN is different, that Amazon won't close your listing and the buyer will be getting what they are expecting.
Have you seen how many Book Club Editions are up for sale against different ISBN's, most of them start with a CN number?
There are also alot of promotional books up for sale and they are usually abridged versions, so the buyer is not getting what they are expecting.
The biggest risk that I can see is that the buyer complains to Amazon that they have not received the item they were expecting. In a case like that Amazon usually takes the side of the buyer, refunds them directly, debits your account and they get to keep the goods - very harsh.
I haven't had it happen to me and I usually include the books description page with the relevant details highlighted so that the buyer can see that it was described accurately.
I think you should go with your 'gut' feelings, if you think the description is right and you are being fair to the buyer - then list it.AMAZON SELLERS CLUB member 0077 come and join us :hello: make some space and get hold of some cash, we're on the ebay and other auctions, car boot and jumble sales board.0 -

This is really useful information for a newbie like me. Thanks for sharing your experience and detailing everything so clearly!0 -
Thanks AT and FFM - I will be doing some listing amending tomorrow for my very light books, and listing the book that is in demand :j that I can make a good return on (although waiting for someone to complain it is too expensive!) The only difference I can see is the ISBN, which I am noting in my description - even though it is from a book club, it is not published by them, but the original printers, so I am happy I am not doing anything wrong! And yes, come to think of it, I have seen lots of book club books up for sale - doh!!
Someone was asking recently what other things anyone had sold on Amazon - I have just sold a LeapPad book (comes under toys, I think). I have about 5 listed, this is the first one to sell. I also have some other toys (v lightweight, brand new) listed, but not sold any of these (as yet!)
Also sold some brand new (unwanted gifts) DVDs and CDs which went very quickly, but they were chart ones so will have been in the Amazon top 100. Just reminded me I have a Jeremy Clarkson DVD to sell, will list it now in the hope it might go for Father's Day!! Just need to dig it out from under the piles and piles of paper and books around the pc....
AT - been meaning to ask, can I have a sellers club number please (is 24 taken - think 23 probably next, but not keen on odd numbers!!!! (except for 13 which is my lucky number and that one went whilst I was on holiday))AMAZON SELLERS CLUB member 0024 come and join us :hello: make some space and get hold of some cash, we're on the Ebay and other auctions, Car Boot and Jumble Sales Board0 -
Things I have been meaning to post about keep popping into my head tonight!!! Someone was asking about cheap Jiffy bags and poundland was mentioned and whoever was asking said they didn't have poundland only poundstretcher - my local poundstretcher (now Instore) does 4 for a £1 - they are size F (345mm x 240 mm). Not brilliantly cheap, but I am reluctant to fork out for loads from Viking Direct (well, my hubby is!)AMAZON SELLERS CLUB member 0024 come and join us :hello: make some space and get hold of some cash, we're on the Ebay and other auctions, Car Boot and Jumble Sales Board0
