    Chocolate Chip Cookies Millies Style

    Ingredients

    125g butter, softened-Willow Butter- 30.5p
    225g caster sugar- 21p
1 egg, lightly beaten- Tesco Value- 9.7p
    1 tsp vanilla extract- 5pish
    225g self-raising flour- 6.5p
    ½ tsp salt- 1p?
    100g chocolate chips- 27p

Eco total... £1.01 for about 15 generously sized cookies

    125g butter, softened-Willow Butter- 30.5p
225g caster sugar- whitworths fair trade- 23p
1 egg, lightly beaten- Morrisons Free Range- 16.5p
    1 tsp vanilla extract- 5pish
    225g self-raising flour- 6.5p
    ½ tsp salt- 1p?
100g chocolate- Divine Fair trade chopped- 84p

Fair trade and free range total... £1.66 for about 15 generously sized cookies

    1. Preheat the oven to 180°C, gas mark 4.

    2. Cream butter and sugars, once creamed, combine in the egg and vanilla.

    3. Sift in the flour and salt, then the chocolate chips.

    4. Roll into walnut size balls, for a more homemade look, or roll into a long, thick sausage shape and slice to make neater looking cookies.

    5. Place on ungreased baking paper. If you want to have the real Millies experience then bake for just 7 minutes, till the cookies are just setting - the cookies will be really doughy and delicious. Otherwise cook for 10 minutes until just golden round the edges.

    6. Take out of the oven and leave to harden for a minute before transferring to a wire cooling rack. These are great warm, and they also store well, if they don't all get eaten straight away!

So there you go, cookies with costings, it's the chocolate that makes the big difference but I made a decision a while ago to always buy fair trade where possible. I'm sure you can add other things than chocolate, nuts, cranberries, toffee chunks...

    Whilst I am here...
When I was in Tesco I spotted some bargains, one of which was Tilda easy cook long grain rice- 5kg for £5.68
Am I right in thinking that is good?

Oh, and the passata is now cheaper than the tesco value chopped tomatoes

  • I am going to Tesco tomorrow Sian thanks for that..and a very well deserved drum roll it is.

    Thanks {blushes}.
I have noticed (whilst spending 90 minutes in tesco for shopping just for me) that a lot of the new discount brand items are cheaper than the value things. There was also a reduced freezer section with the 'Christmas' party snacks really reduced and I picked up some punnets of cherry tomatoes for 17p each that are currently 'moonblushing' in the oven :) All in all a bargainiferous day

Sian - have you tried Co-op fairtrade chocolate? They do several different types (dark, milk, white, white with crispies, spiced dark (like green and blacks maya gold), caramel...) which are between 99p and £1.20 for 150g or more. And very very nice it is too :))

Given the discussion previously about the Asda Smart Price shampoo, since my conditioner has just ran out I'm giving the SP version a go. Only 25p per 500ml bottle. Can't be much different to the £3/4 stuff surely...

Just to say i bought the passata, but Tesco's own brand tinned toms ( chopped ) were 33p so also bargainous.

Have spent less than mysupermarket total as so much was reduced today that i have been shoe horning stuff into my cupboards and freezer. Total was about £34 and i came away with a voucher for £7 off next shop if i spend over £40. Happy days.

Have worked out a meal plan for the next few days, lots of reduced veg, so going to be making soup as well.

Quick question Weezl, how long does the lovely lentil Pate last for? And can it be frozen?
