Hi everyone, I've been awol over the weekend since OH had 2 days off with me so we made the most of them and went walking and mountain biking. Had a great weekend and although it wasn't done completely frugally (chips in Rothbury followed by an ice cream) it still worked out far cheaper than going shopping, which a lot of people seemed to spend their bank holiday Monday doing...

Back on the frugal bandwaggon this week and also on the weight-loss bandwaggon too so the two shall go fantastically hand in hand if I'm clever enough.

    Take care everyone xx

@ Boredofbeingat home, I wish I had a Home Bargains nearby. The closest one to me is 43 miles away.

That is a shame, but i am also a big fan of value products. Maybe if you are visting anywhere that has a HB or a quality save ( same outlet) and B&M's are also very similar, you could go with a list and spend to your hearts content. I would offer to post things but in reality that just adds to the cost.

Oooh just a note vis a vis Peter Kay and the warning that Southerner's don't always put gravy on chips..be warned!! Unless you are coming South via Scotland then you should be ok:eek::rotfl:

That recipe sounds possible for my dinner tonight.

I was writing it down - assuming you were talking family size amounts - and then came to the bit about "plate" and breaking through into egg - and am now thinking that presumably the rice and sauce get cooked in whatever size portions one wants
    - but then one puts some of each onto a single size serving dish and the egg and cheese on top (ie one egg EACH).

    Errr.....am I right?
So sorry for the long delay in replying :o I was up late this morning & went straight out to the library :money: with my friend. When I came home Dh & DS1 were replacing fence panels with some that a neighbour gave us :T The dog escaped twice and there has been general chaos!!

In answer to your question - yes make as much or as little quantity as you fancy. Mum used to feed 3 of us, now she feeds 2 and I feed 6 or more if the kids have friends round for tea :rotfl: Hope that you enjoy it.

Chips with gravy? Now thats a new one on me...never heard of that.

I did have some chips (of the crisp/thin variety) in Holland - where they serve them with mayonnaise - and duly made mental notes that thats worth trying.

Hmmm....chips with gravy....I did try a nice onion gravy recipe one time...goes off wondering about chips with that....

    Hi Guys

MOT failure but only a new tyre and a new numberplate ................apparently the law changed recently and the numbers on mine are the incorrect size!!! total cost inc MOT will be less than £100 so not too bad

Had a shepherdless pie for tea and just off to Mr M's to spend my voucher and do the weeks shop

Dug out some disastrous hm soap earlier to thro away but it has improved with age and now lathers nicely so no soap needed for a few months now

Better go bargains to be had

I've just looked and there is all those shops in Manchester where I'm going tomorrow. :T
I meant that I'd be going back to south on Thursday, so chips and gravy in Manchester after the concert. :D

Ceridwen, I like chips and mayonnaise too, especially garlic mayonnaise nomnomnom.

Shaz, that isn't too bad, but incorrect numberplates? What's changed so drastically that what's been ok for years is now wrong? Good luck in your bargain shop!

I'm going to start making a list for the bargain shops, may have to start with a blender. I thought I gave the soup enough time to cool down, but evidently not as the jug cracked in about 4 places. I've had a look and cannot find a replacement jug so have to buy a whole new blender.
Getting there... A deal at a time. :T

When I was at Uni it was a vegetarian canteen and I wasn't always keen on what was on offer, however my staple diet was chips, onion gravy, salt and mayonnaise :rotfl: It was that or the vending machines, or the pizza place at the bottom of the road :o

Good luck with bargain hunting, just suggesting Primark in Manchester..but you may not come out;) Mega bargainous:T

Have you googled the Jug? or ask on freecycle, someone may have a spare blender.

    *deep sigh*
That Primark is great, does it still have the TKMaxx downstairs? I used to go there all the time for work and would spend all day in there and then treat myself to chips and gravy in the chip shop opposite the hotel. I love Manchester.

I didn't think of freecycle, thank you, I'll pop a message up. I did google it, but the jugs that came up were more expensive than the original price of the blender!
