Liek many others I am currently in a bad financial state at the moment. After having my bank (Barclays) cancel all my direct debits I've decided its time to setup a parachute account before I go after them for bank charges.

I gave the Co-Op a call this morning and after 15 minutes have been approved for a joint cashminder account for me and my other half. Need to point out that I was told that as of June the Co-op are not giving out Visa Electron cards anymore and anyone who has one will be given a ordinary debit card instead so it looks like if you want to use Ryanair you'll have to look elsewhere.

    Cheers,

    MickW

Does that mean they are doing a card like Barclay's basic account? A 2 in 1 debit card (no guarantee for cheques)

    Thanks for information

    Hi Folks,

I've just double checked the information given above with the Cooperative Bank and can confirm its 100% correct.

The Cooperative Bank will be issuing Visa Debit cards to Cashminder Account customers during June 2009.

    Hi All

I have had a lovely *ahem* review with Natwest. They told me that as I have only held a basic (STEP) account with them for the last 10 years - I wont be building up a credit rating, they are pushing me to move to a current account. As it's apparently better and I can get loans, mortgages, overdrafts (DEBT).

This immediately got my back up - hate being told what to do! lol I asked specifically what changed and he eventually admitted I get a cheque book - thats it. Wahooo. Told them I was happy with my solo debit card and internet banking. I just want to know it this is true? I don't think it is, but happy for you guys to prove me wrong! :)

FYI - I used to have bad credit, have cleared all debts in the last few years (debt free for 4 years and was in total less than £8,000). Have credit account with Next (not used), have a barclaycard I clear monthly, catalogue account i pay off every month.. so I figure that my credit rating is improving well enough despite no current account??

Anyho - grateful for any info and sorry if this is the wrong thread.

    Cheers
    Rebecca

  • Can anyone help with a problem i have, i am new to this website so not sure if i am posting in the right place. I did an online shop with Tesco.com, they have said they have not received the money, my bank (Natwest) confirmed the amount has been debited from my account, they gave me an authorisation code and time the transaction was made, Tesco are denying they have received the money. I have spent two days on the phone to both tesco.com and natwest and neither are helping me, it is incredibly frustrating, someone has my money, it is somewhere. any ideas?
