Nigewick is completely correct. It sounds to me as if your boyfriend is the one you should be dealing with. UW act in a completely ethical way and any problems are usually dealt with sensitively. I may be wrong but you appear to have had a raw deal but I'm inclined to think that it is your boyfriends that landed you in it and not UW.

Nigewick is also correct that the person who signed you up (if it was you they signed up) should be spoken to to have it sorted.

Just an extra thought. If your boyfriend is on the agreement that means if I am not mistaken that you are both severally liable for any payments and not just you. So if UW used your boyfriend's card then that is not fraudulent use. Whoever signed you up (& your boyfriend up) has been very naughty in telling you that his card would only be used for the £10 pre payment. If they had trouble getting payment from your DD what do you expect UW to do?

As I said previously I don't think you have any real gripe with UW. It is your friends and possibly the UW rep. By the way the person who signed you up is not an employee of UW. He or she is an independent distributor.

From what i can make out.She signs up for energy doesnt have £10 down payment distributor says its ok to use her boyfriends card which i understand its not,is that correct?.
Somehow boyfriend is added to agreement to get around this, plus broadband and phone are added which she claims she did not have. UW recognise boyfriend is not responsible/liable by refunding him,but still obviosly pursue her for amount outstanding.

Hardly her boyfriends fault. Distributor more likely.

why is it my b/f fault, he agreed to lend me £10 as we were told that is all his card details would be used for. He did not live with me so why should he pay my bills?

Its the employee of UW that is at fault for giving misleading information. Why should i have to give UW back money when i never recieved that payment in the first place. Its funny how a company will chase you for money you think they you owe them but when its the other way round they dont even bother to make any contact.

Iwent to the distributor and told her about the situation, she laughed and hasnt spoken to me since

exactly thank you.... it doesnt seem that hard to understand

the letter I got from UW stated they were chasing my for a wrongfully returned amount. i'm sure if they check their records they will see the comunications by email and letter that everything was correct and was agreed in a proper manner and that I NEVER recieved any money

I would complain to the company about the distributor if that's the case. Utility Warehouse take this sort of thing seriously.

I agree with Nigewick. The distributor was at fault for allowing your b/f to sign up on your behalf. In that respect I agree. But Rummble you were blaming the company itself, which can only go on the information in the sign up form. With regards to the extra services you say you didn't want then it seems logical to me to at least ask why he did sign up for them on your behalf, unless of course the distributor did it herself.

I know you are no longer a customer but just for your own peace of mind it might be of interest to find out a little more from your b/f what it was he did (or possibly duped into doing).

As Nigewick said, the company takes these matters seriously. Distributors have to abide by the terms and conditions of the business partnership they sign when they join UW.

It was very wrong for the distributor to allow your b/f to use his card on your behalf. This may be one reason why you say the DD was not set up properly.

Did you sign the contract yourself? If so, did you not look at the paper work?

I am very sorry that you had a problem but you shouldn't judge the company by the actions of an unscrupulous distributor. It doesn't help anyone. Nor does the disreputable behaviour of this distributor. Laughing at you only shows her up for what she was (or is).

    Hope that helps

We have all seen the great gary from uw teaching us how easy it was to sign up the gullible spanish teachers for multiple utilities:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IdZcBC0Kf9k

In the video gary makes great emphasis of the uw being the only company in Europe able to give a bill with all the utilities on it, and as proof, shows his bill from his "brag bag".

The uw has a sample bill for us all to admire on its website:

    https://www.utilitywarehouse.co.uk/home/Benefits/The_bill.taf

Almost needless to say, it looks hopeless.

The bill is from June (when the vat rate was 17.5%), but it seems from scrutinising the bill that the uw wrongly overcharges its members over VAT:

    1) They claim their internet charge includes VAT, but the customer gets VAT added to his "broadcall"

    2) VAT is normally only charged at 5% on energy. Though apparently not with the UW's unique billing system. Everything (gas, electricity, membership fee etc) gets VAT at the top rate added on.

As presumably some of the reps who come here are also customers, they may want to check these unique uw bills and see just how much they are being overcharged each month.

Or is it like everything else we learn about the uw, who's motto for the reps seems to be don't bother the gullibles with the details, just keep it simple and keep telling them how much they are going to save by signing up!
