2.5 % reduction when you increased gas by over 31% in September.
This is totally shameful.
You are not comparing like with like.
I and many others have historically saved 60 to 80% off our gas bills and after March will have bills 25 to 40% cheaper than rivals.
The reductions are small because they are already ridiculously cheap. If anything, you should be criticising them for jeopardising their business for not increasing their prices.0 -

Why is it shameful?
They are a non-profit company so you can hardly accuse them of keeping prices high to make big profits.
Presumably their pre-Sept prices were uneconomic and present prices are set to cover costs.
The only point that really matters is how their prices compare against their competitors.
With no standing charge(single tier) they are very competitive for low users, less so for high users!0 -
Hello Ebico rep, good to have you on the board. Perhaps you can solve a simple query for me. I like to manage my gas and electricity accounts online but, for some bizarre reason, the website (admittedly Southern Electric, not EbiCo) doesn't like my gas account. When I try to register the account against my profile/address it comes back as unrecognised - the number is correct! I have tried 4 times now and completed the additional information (which I presumed was for the account to be added manually) but still only my electricity account is available online.
However, the problems don't stop there - because the system doesn't recognise my account number the phone meter reading service doesn't work either! Helpfully though, the automated service doesn't make you aware of it, the meter reading simply never reaches your account! Not good when you are trying to keep bills accurate! I only found out when, after 10 days, I hadn't recieved an amended bill and called through to customer services. When I rang through my meter reading (the only way it gets to my account it appears) the customer services person said she had the same problem. Any suggestions as to how I get my gas account either online or accepting phone meter readings?0 -

We’ve saved households about £1 million in total over the last year [2007] and we’d like to double that in 2008.

To get a true picture of what these "average" reductions will make is to compare the new rates with your most recent bills.
Times the number of kwh at the new rate and see the actual amount of savings made.
I notice when B Gas made their announcment of a 10% average cut,for most people this equated to 3.6%.
Averages can be deceiving.

Yes, I agree it's suspicious. It sounds very low. I suspect savings must be much higher. 8,000 gas customers saving £125 per year, 4,000 gas customers saving £250, or 40,000 dual fuel customers saving £25 per year. Even if dual fuel customers pay a touch more for electricity that is more than compensated for by the convenience of the payment options and the savings on the gas. The net saving must be much higher than £25.0 -
jamesbrownontheroad - The prices will take effect on the 30th March. I'm sorry that you are not entirely satisfied with this, but this is the earliest we are able to reduce the prices. Last year we were the last to increase our prices and we're one of only a few suppliers that have dropped both gas and electricity prices.
BettySpaghetti - I'm sorry to hear you are having problems with your gas account. If you could email your details to info@ebico.co.uk we'll speak to Southern Electric to get the issue resolved. I've spoken to customer services here and advised them that you'll be emailing in and it'll be looked into right away. Thanks.
The £1 million figure is based on how many customers switched to us and the difference between our tariffs and the standard British Gas and 'in area' supplier's tariff. Lets just say it's a conservative estimate.
alared - The electricity prices vary from region to region and take into account General Domestic and Economy 7 prices, so with all this taken into account the average is 9%. The gas reduction of 2.5% is an exact figure as all gas customer are charged the same rates regardless of location, usage or payment method.

Well I for one will be interested to see my bills at the end of this month as I've just taken meter readings and calculated that I've used almost exactly the same amount of gas and electricity for the current 6mth period as I did during Sept '07-March '08.
Any price increase will be instantly obvious to me“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0
