Just to add to previous comments...
My first account was apparently active instantly and received a faster payment about 5 minutes after it was opened, but I couldn't transfer anything out at that point. The following day my transfer 'disappeared' from my statement and available balance for 24 hours, but reappeared the following day, backdated by two days ( ). Since then, I've been able to use the account normally (and my other two seem to be working fine also). So the accounts may not be fully functional from the minute you open them.

Interesting....I've just posted about "disappearing" credits.

  • Just spent 25 minutes on their crackly phone line opening a new Reward account, wish I'd just done it online, it would have been quicker and less stressful, but anyway they said it was accepted. I have to go into the branch to sign on Saturday. Then it's free £5s all the way! Spose you have to do a little bit of work for your free cash. lol :)

credits can be transferred from other Halifax accounts inc reward account - reward account.

Check there's nothing against this in the T&C - I don't think there are any current accounts around with a minimum deposit that let you do it from another account in your name with the bank!

Halifax allow it with their HICA, although its yet to be seen whether they're as 'carefree' with the new Reward account.

The HICA was, which was covered in post #80 at the very bottom of page 4 of this thread.

So it may be reasonably expected (but not assumed) that the Reward account will too. The T&Cs do not specify this exclusion, as far as I can see.

Edit: Beaten to it! Because of the few moments I spent trying to find my previous post on this topic ... !
  • I have a HICA and a guaranteed saver reward. I'm sure I'm right in saying that you have to fund the HICA with 1K per month to get the 6% interest?? (or have i totally lost it!!).

If I open a reward account and transfer my HICA to a reward.. would I still qualify for the guaranteed saver reward rate of 6% as I will be funding with the 1K everymonth?:o

or is there some other reason I think I have to fund my HICA with 1K each month!!!?:rotfl:

    thanks

Mine said current account the day they were opened, but today (the day after opening them), they all said Reward Current Account.

thanks for that, my bro just opened 3 which were opened straight away and say current account also. i'm hoping my third doesn't get declined now, would not be too pleased.

Just goes to show the branches have not fully understood it either. Someone is getting it wrong!!! Only time will tell me thinks!!

They're all over the place with this account, worse than normal ... Branches and their call centres.

A week before the Reward account was due to go live I was in their Ilkley Branch and asked the Financial Adviser to confirm that re-designating a HICA ----> Reward kept the original Account number etc. And was asked if this was the Ultimate Reward? I said 'no .. it's the new Reward current account from 9th Feb' .... to which she replied 'Oh ... the Guaranteed Saver Reward' ! At which point I conceded defeat ... and paid in the cheque I was there for.

I was then converting a couple of accounts ...> Reward, over the 'phone on the 10th. And asked the lad, tongue in cheek ... 'can I file an R85 on the wife's account'. When he replied 'yes' .... I asked if he was sure as Halifax are at pains to promote the fact this is a cash payment ... and not interest? He asked a colleague ... came back with a further 'yes' .... then, prompted again, went to ask a manager.

And came back with the lovely reply 'yes you can ..... but not with us .... you have to use an R40'! So as it was 5 minutes to his shift end, and he didn't want to pick up another call, I explained that the real answer to give is 'no you can't'. 'You have to wait until the year end and then claim back from HMRC with an R40'.

Bless. Made me feel useful ... and he was very pleasant .... but, I suspect, none the wiser as he departed. But they really should be better trained .... ?

Almost certainly. And they obviously need to do some retrospective changes to the designatory accounts in the T&Cs.

You'd need to contact them to be 100%. But as they've indicated the HICA is no longer available .... and likely to convert in '09 ..... they would face some difficulty if they determined voluntarily re-designated accounts didn't count?
