Hi everyone,
It's been a few days since I posted on here so hope all have been well in the meantime.
I am actually just on to declare my first week of September coming in at £39.22 from a target of £40 (so far therefore £39.22/£160 for the month so far). It's not in red cos I know MrsM will just put the final monthly total on at the end of Sept!
I have reasoned that £40 is a good amount for us, not too much but equally enough to still get healthy decent food for me, DH and DS. Still managing to get whoopsies etc on some stuff so we are able to buy plenty fruit/veg and dairy stuff (a lot of this is for DS's little bones). DH has also brought some free local eggs home for us, so that is nice, will be making mini quiches next week with those (I have posted my meal plan on the meal plans thread - anyone who is interested in meal planning there are quite a few on there now).
I have made a shopping list for MrT's for tomorrow (which comes to less than £20 as we have a £3 of £15 voucher for the Coop, which Tesco accept up here) and also have to go to Boots (although I think I will use some points to pay in there as we only need a couple of things!) so will have around £20 left for the rest of the week hopefully. This will be used for top ups of stuff like milk etc throughout the next week.
Ok, hope this is not too waffly!
Will check in with you all again next Friday.
(Won't be posting again but will pop in to have a quick look through the posts and also to update my sig).
xxx OS
(PS I have deleted/edited some of my earlier posts in light of us trying to keep a bit more on topic so apologies to anyone who reads through and happens to see any of these deleted posts quoted anywhere and wonders where it came from- it was a basically me moaning about challenges of GC on a rural island and tbh was not that much use to anyone other than me lol)Ermutigung wirkt immer besser als Verurteilung.

Happy Friday :T Hope everyone's doing well with their budgets so far for September. Hugs to anyone who needs one. And to anyone who just wants one
So far I have spent about £116 of my £350 budget for September, so about a third and not yet a week into it. But that does include £40 on a bulk buy of cat food, which will last one of the little darlings til the end of the year. Other little darling is on his last bag of his special food, but won't need more until next month. I am feeling reasonably confident this month as I reckon I only need to spend about £20 on top-ups next week as have loads in the freezers and cupboards. That should hopefully put me under-budget by the time I get halfway through the month.
I may need to buy a new kettle though, which would be a bit of a spanner in the works. Current one seems to have sprung a leak at the bottom. Will have to have a look at it later and see what's what. OH wants one of those Tefal Quick Cup things:rolleyes: , but I've just looked at some reviews and it seems they aren't particularly good - and I'm certainly not spending £50 on a useless gadget!
Might lose track of the GC over the weekend as won't be online much. OH's sister gets married on Saturday, so we are out all day at that. Then Sunday we are off out to a pub for lunch as there will be a singer there who has been recommended for our wedding, so we are going to see what she's like.
Hope you all have a great MSE weekendYou can do anything, make anything, dream anything. If you change the world, the world will change.0 -
Help!
I want to make a healthy tomato pasta sauce for tonights tea and not sure how. I'm sure I've seen people on the GC mention one! I have tomatoes, onions, courgettes, carrots etc, and will probably blend it so my boys don't moan.
Do I just simmer them all together? Do I need to add any stock/liquids etc?Weight loss to date - 8st 13lbs :j0 -
shelbell this my recipe you can add other diced veg at the frying stage
Sweet Tomato Pasta Base sauce
Serves 4
Ingredients
1 onion,peeled and finely chopped
2 cloves of garlic, peeled and finely chopped
100ml olive oil
1 level teaspoon dried oregano
pinch chilli flakes
800g tinned tomatoes
1 teaspoon sugar
1teaspoon balsamic vinegar
Method
1. In a pan, slowly fry the onion and garlic in a good drizzle of olive oil.
2. Add the oregano and chilli and cook for 4 minutes until sweet and softened.
3. Add the tomatoes, simmer gently for about 15 minutes then break the tomatoes up with a wooden spoon.
4. Add the balsamic vinegar and the sugar and stir cook for a further 5 minutes
5. taste the sauce adding more sugar or vinegar if necessary then blend with a hand blender until smooth
Tip: You could serve this sauce alone or add vegetables, fish, chicken or cooked sliced sausages etc

Hi shellBell
I cut up chunks or tomatos and whatever other veg I want to use, add a slug of olive oil some salt and pepper and whack it in the oven on a medium heat for about 20-30 mins.. just check it and stir it occasionally so it doesn't stick.. by roasting you get a sweeter flavour (that might pass the "boy test").. when done just blitz... you can always add a drop of liquid/stock if need be..and if you want to take the edge off the tomatoes for the boys add a wee pinch of sugar..or if you want a creamier version i add a dollop of cream cheese.. makes it a bit creamier -although it goes a bit pink-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 -

CAZ - i would make the crumble as normal then freeze, its what my mum always does! Rasberries freeze well but don't normally keep their shape.
SHELBELL - my tomato sauce for pasta always comes out different! The easiest way is to get it all simmering till tender and add seasoning/herbs to taste. taste after each added ingrediant! I don't normally add stock to loosen it up, just water, but stock would add more favour. hope it helps
My shopping yesterday came in about £75 which should last us two weeks - fingers crossed!
Plan is to bulk cook this weekend, since the weather looks miserable and gardening will be impossible, going to try and do lasagne, tom sauce and soup.
And there's the choc cheesecake to do too! it won't last two minsCurrently studying for a Diploma - wish me luck

I hope everyone is doing better with their budget than me! I have just under 3 weeks until the end of my 'September'!
£22.90 spent at the Coop, greengrocers & hardware store (some bicarb for some OS cleaning) today. I managed to pick up some whoopsied diced pork for 99p (from £1.49) - this will be turned into pork and apple burgers for the freezer. Fingers crossed for NSDs for over the weekend and next week. Meals are planned (see here) - so there should be no need to buy anything else.
Off to make an enormous batch of bolognese for the freezer. Have a great weekend everyone!GC May £178/£250 NSD0 -
Wasn't expecting kitchen to start this week, or to be without oven and whole kitchen to be unhygienic due to dust, so am going to allow eating out as part of the budget, will see how things go, probably not a good idea on €300....spent €40 today on lunch for 3 of us, so may be take-away from now until finish!

Hello, I'm declaring a budget of £200 again for September. I only blew it last month because of moving and there is nothing so exciting happening this month! The big challenge this month is that I need to start buying bits and pieces for the baby (due in November!) to put away ready, so that will stretch the budget.
So far this month I've spent £41.21, which is on target. Good luck with September, everyone!
Edited to add: Actually - £51.86 - I forgot replacement heads for our toothbrushes - blimey those things are expensive! So now over in fact - grrr.Debt: June 2013 £2000
