Second the prunes and water comments so far for Mr Weezl.

It does sometimes take a while for the body to "adapt" to more "roughage" in the diet - or, in reverse, to adapt back again.

On another topic - as we have a tendency to break into Middle English words on this thread :D - then an appropriate link for herb-growing:

    www.gallowglass.org/jadwiga/herbs/smallherbs.html

as in growing herbs in a very small space - mediaeval style.

Hiya, I'm gonna have a bash at some more indexing now the in-laws have gone....

Realised that a lot of the recipes are vegan as well as vegetarian.:D

What do you all think, would it be useful to put a symbol for that too? What should it be.

Is Denbo a vegan or a veggie, I can't remember....

Thanks for another great linky Ceridwen, you are better than google, for locating great stuff, dunno how you do it. Spinning your fascinating web.

ISOM hope you're ok after race for life, we're proud as proud can be of you.:T:T:T

Hi Weezl :hello: We crossed paths on the grocery challenge a while back - you inspired me to try making cheese! - but I haven't really ventured onto OS for a while but have been dragged back in due to an increased interest in gardening, cooking and erm, knitting! Have just read quite a bit of this thread and associated links, fascinating stuff, especially interested in the posts on calcium, magnesium and zinc as I've recently discovered I'm eating below the RDAs on them, don't usually drink milk (even in tea) and even my passion for cheese doesn't make up for it.

Well done on a brilliant challenge!

hello RS!! Lovey to have you here too!! I miss me ole DFW mates but only so many hours in the day!!
aww thanks weezl...we only walked it!! Atmosphere was great and we thought of you...dying of weird poisenings and just "down river" from where we were - showed mum where you were!!
Head pouding again....going to get some iron tablets tomorrow but suspect that its just the residue of massage and all those nasty toxins escaping!
Ta for linkies C! One says how to make paneer...may have an experement with that...do you think you can use a jam sieve instead of muslin? Watched a bt of the DVD but mum getting annoyed with TV & laptop blaring so will watch when shes gone!
Just had yummy tea - the aubergine & spinach curry I made a couple of weeks ago with added cashew nuts, prawns and coconut milk! Have concluded the basic curry is a great base to which you can add loads! (chicken, meat, chick pea). Also had yummy popadams and mums responsible for merangues after a "pause"...discovered she likes em soggy but I like em crunchy! Have also made 2 loaves of bread and a cake for mum to take home and thats me well & truely done!
Did you have a nice time with in-laws weezl? How is Mr Weezl?
RS I cant knit - my mum taught me and as shes left handed & me right my poor brain poor explodes at the mere sight of wool!!

I can't knit very well ISOM! My mum did teach me when I was younger but I'm not the most co-ordinated person and found it difficult so never got into it. Been thinking about giving it another go for a while and got one of my workmates to show me the basics again the other day.. I finally know how to do a purl stitch (never mastered that before) and taught myself how to cast off this evening from an online site!

Weezl, err sorry to hear about Mr Weezl's poo :rotfl: Sorry I haven't read your whole 'story' - just curious was he quite accepting of taking on OS or did it take some persuasion? (obviously he was unaware of the toiletry consequences ahead!!!) My OH said to me the other day that he didn't know how we'd cope money-wise if we ever lived together (not that that's likely to happen anytime soon) and I told him we'd be fine as I have been known to feed two people for a week on a fiver in the past. Not sure how pleased he'd be with some of my leftovers-type cooking though, such as tonight's sausage & odds and ends of veg found in the fridge casserole... used up some pickled beetroot in it and it went bright pink! :D

Here you go... its not the most economical recipe but im sure you can tweak it and scale it down ;) once you know the basic ingredients the sky is the limit as to what you can do to it :T

    SPINACH AND CHEESE PIE
    1. 1 kilo fresh spinach
    2. 250g feta
    3. 1 large leek -finely chopped
    4. 300g spring onions -finely chopped
    5. 1/2 cups olive oil
    6. 1/2 bunch dillweed -chopped
    7. 1/2 bunch parsley -chopped
    8. 2 eggs
    9. seasoning
    10. 500g filo pastry
    • pick, wash and blanch the spinach -then chop and squeeze out all the liquid.. i find using a teatowel easiest
    • mash the feta with a fork
    • heat half the oil and sweat off the onion and leeks
    • remove from heat and add the dillweed, feta, parsley, beaten eggs, spinach and seasoning and mix
    • use half the filo to line a baking dish (no size given but it looks about 10"X6" :rotfl: )brush each layer with oil
    • put the filling in and top with the remaining Filo -brushing each sheet with oil again
    • bake in a moderate oven for 1hr
I have made slight alterations to the ingredients and method..so im ok to post it for you :D
    Hope you enjoy it...

the quest to save money here in the weezl house has taken on an epic debate.

Those of a delicate disposition look away now...

:oHypothetically speaking, is it better to feed one's husband on more expensive foods, and just clean your toilet once a week, or to spend three months giving him lentils, chick peas, rice and oats, and then be confronted with a foot long poo of 3 ins diameter, which will not flush away after 2 full hot kettles of water poured from a great height (usually works well) and 8 whole flushes!!!! Just hypothetically speaking now....
    ;)

Gentler more civilised readers look back now!

We've decided the knotweed is both gooseberry-esque and rhubarb esque, and I've made a giant SC full of rice pudding flavoured with knotweed puree, which will be frozen in ramekins to allow lots more puddings for the last month of my mad challenge.

Need to update sig now, but it's looking even scarier!!! £5 left for a month:eek::eek:

oh naughty ceridwen mentioning clotted cream..... drools on keyboard,

Love to all and hope your sunday's going well.

Hi hope i wont be out of place suggesting this, but lactulose works very well..in these situations and far cheaper than other over the counter remedies. Copious amounts of filtered water, very good as well.

Right bobbing out, but a very impressive post:rolleyes: I bet he feels better now.:D

Hi, just wanted to say 'thanks' for such a great thread!

It is a great idea to put all the recipes at the front. I am going to shop for liver pate and humous today - wish me luck! xx
