Green, ethical, energy issues in the news
MSE Insert: We've seen some debate on this thread about the relevance of some posts to the topic. To ensure the thread remains on topic for forumites wanting to discuss the latest news we're asking that all posts contain a link to the news you're discussing. For the purposes of this thread the "news" needs to be within the…

Renewables: "talking 'bout my generation"
Please forgive the corny thread title inspired by The Who but this post on the bloated 'how do I make the most of it' thread prompted me to initiate a new one... Well, there was yet another misty and bleak start in North Notts today (Thursday), but my SSW 3.92 kWp system was generating around 3kW for just a few minutes…

On-grid domestic battery storage
Hello! Right, as discussed elsewhere, battery storage for self generation (typically PV) is interesting (to some), and gathering momentum in the UK. So here's a thread to discuss it, and watch it develop. I've called it on-grid, as off-grid is so much more specialised. And domestic as commercial scale storage, or grid…

New Plug-in Battery, no electrician required
Just stumbled across this. Pre-order £699 for a 2kWh battery. sounds interesting, capacity a bit small, but might suit someone - certainly I'd think a shed with solar on top might benefit for outdoor supply to the garden. https://www.nodienergy.com/

FIT feed in tariff increase for 2026
I am aware there is some debate on whether increases will continue but its gone quiet. Are there any updates on this?

Lux ac battery controller
Thought I'd start a new thread for the Lux battery controller as suggested on the battery storage thread. To kick it off, I notice there is an entry on the web portal stats under "history data" for battery temperature (tBat°C) but mine just shows zeros. There's also entries for max and min cell voltage but again, no…

Who to notify?..... DC coupled retrofit battery
I have a 10kWh Growatt hybrid inverter with an 11.44 solar array on 3ph. Export is restricted to 10kWh.on G98. If I add 20kW of DC coupled battery storage, do I need to notify / seek DNO approval? Export is controlled by the existing inverter and batteries are on DC side so any export is controlled to agreed limit.

Growatt battery discharging too early - Octopus Flux setup help
Growatt SPH6000 + 5kWh battery on Octopus Flux - why is battery discharging at 14:00 instead of waiting for my Grid First schedule (16:00-19:00)? Setup: * Active mode: Load First * Grid First Time Period 1: 16:00-19:00 (enabled) * AC Charge: 02:00-05:00 (working fine - see orange bars in graph) Problem:

Battery Electric Vehicle News / Enjoying the Transportation Revolution
I thought a more specific thread/title might be useful for posting news on BEV's (and EV's in general), given that we have threads to discuss the minutia about EV ownership, but perhaps a thread just for the news might be useful. Disclaimer from the start, BEV news can easily become Tesla heavy, so posts, especially mine,…

Battery Backup
I am thinking of putting a backup system in place to power the house when we have power cuts, of which there have been a few recently, some lasting several hours. Planning battery installation soon, and only to feed one of the three phases (i.e., not heaters) when in backup mode, but not sure if to go with automated…

Export tariffs - FIT, SEG, Octopus Outgoing Agile
I was a Green Network Energy (GNE) customer and have just emerged from the transfer to EDF as Supplier of Last Resort (SoLR). I still need to get my GNE closing bill but my EDF account is fully functional, which has let me sign up for smart meters (don't all shout at once). One of the questions EDF asked was whether I…

Recycling Feather/Down clothing or duvets
Hi, this seemed the most appropriate place to mention this scheme which I discovered today after some digging about. Not so much money-saving as a morality-saving for anyone who struggles with the ethics of living in a throw-away society perhaps! I've upgraded my very old feather and down duvet and wanted it to be…

Change bottle gas central heating & hot water to solar & electric - advice please
Hi all, I have a small property in a high up rural location, 2 bed semi bungalow with a log burner but the main heating is gas powered central heating for the radiators and hot water. There is no mains gas so I rely on the expensive 2 gas bottle system installed before buying it. With working away its usually only used for…

Ripple Energy wind farm?
Has anyone looked at Ripple Energy? I'm thinking about it, but not too seriously. I don't have a lot of time to investigate it and if anyone else has taken a look I'd appreciate their thoughts before I take a more serious look.

Solar panels Spam call National/local energy support trusted homes
Thought I'd post this here with today's spam call, it nearly caught me out so possibly others will benefit. I don't usually answer unknown numbers, but this English speaking man called and knew my name, number and home address. At first I thought it was a courtesy call from my installer. He rambled on and said a colleague…

Considering Additional Growatt Battery - supplier/installer recommendations
Hey all, So, we have a 4.5kWh (10x 450w) Solar array on the roof, a 3.6KWh Hybrid Inverter and a single 6.5kWh Growatt Battery. Pretty pleased with the system and its performance. Our bills - we're electric only here, rural area - are substantially lower than they once were. We actually tend to build a little credit in the…

Storing soft plastics for recycling
I want to start collecting soft plastics to take to the supermarket for recycling. Does anyone have a recommendation for a suitable (new or upcycled) receptacle to collect them in in the kitchen? I've looked at various things for sale online but unconvinced any of them are quite right for the job
