Solar Panel & Battery Quote Advice
Hi I am looking into having a Solar PV system along with battery installed and looking for some advice on quote comparison. My estimated annual usage for electricity is 8585kWh & we currently own a 4 bedroom detached bungalow with a South West facing roof, 4 occupants in the house. We do not plan to move and see this as…

Eon Next demanding more proof of solar ownership
We moved house 18 months ago and successfully transfered the feed in tariffs to us. E-on Next have been paying us the rather small amounts due but today I have received an e-mail saying that want a second document proving we own them or they won’t pay us anymore. The options they give is a letter from the previous owner…

Solar install as part of ECO4 grant
Hi all,We are looking at a potential solar install as part of an ECO4 grant (also including ASHP and added insulation). I have a separate thread on the heat pumps forum for that side, but wanted to learn more about the solar side here.We have been quoted (very limited details so far) for 8 x 434W panels and a 3.6kW…

Renewables: "talking 'bout my generation"
Please forgive the corny thread title inspired by The Who but this post on the bloated 'how do I make the most of it' thread prompted me to initiate a new one... Well, there was yet another misty and bleak start in North Notts today (Thursday), but my SSW 3.92 kWp system was generating around 3kW for just a few minutes…

Ditching gas, going electric immersion only, a wee project
I think this fits within the green and ethical section of MSE. This is an ongoing project to replace my gas combi boiler with water tanks heated by immersion. (Hopefully finished In next couple of weeks) A common question would be why not use a heat pump, and there are two reasons for this. 1. It would have to run all day,…

Can you run an all electric house for free?
A little over a year ago I was paying £110 / month for electricity, which doesn't sound alot for a 3 bed semi family of 5, but i had already invested in quite a few ways to cut the annual cost. I had a large solar array already installed and a large battery bank taking charge from the solar to reduce annual costs as much…

The Alternative Green Energy Thread
In an attempt to maintain harmony on Martyn1981’s Green, Ethical, Energy issues in the news thread, Mart and I have agreed that I will no longer contribute to that thread but instead start a separate thread which Mart has agreed not to participate on. The intention of the thread is that green energy issues can be discussed…

Battery Electric Vehicle News / Enjoying the Transportation Revolution
I thought a more specific thread/title might be useful for posting news on BEV's (and EV's in general), given that we have threads to discuss the minutia about EV ownership, but perhaps a thread just for the news might be useful. Disclaimer from the start, BEV news can easily become Tesla heavy, so posts, especially mine,…

Green, ethical, energy issues in the news
MSE Insert: We've seen some debate on this thread about the relevance of some posts to the topic. To ensure the thread remains on topic for forumites wanting to discuss the latest news we're asking that all posts contain a link to the news you're discussing. For the purposes of this thread the "news" needs to be within the…

Iboost Diversion to Grid

Solax Cloud WI-Fi APP
For some reason my Solax Wi-Fi APP is acting very strangely, I am unable to access my setting using my iPhone X, plus it keeps occasionally losing my device site, I have deleted and installed the APP, removed it from my hub and reinstalled. The dongle is green and working fine. However I can easily access the site using my…

Finally my Sunny Boy inverter has died
Hi All, After nearly 14 years ( November 2011 install ) this morning our inverter has died, or so it seems. I noticed that the light that normally flashes to show that our Immersun is diverting excess generation to heat our hot water wasn’t flashing even though we had full sun on our panels. A quick check of the Sunny Beam…

How to avoid funding war and exploitation?
I'm finding it increasingly hard to know where to spend my money. Just canceled my spotify account due to their investment practices. Found out this morning about exploitation of women on spanish farms where Lidl sources its produce. There doesn't seem to be one up to date resource which lists the unethical practices of…

On-grid domestic battery storage
Hello! Right, as discussed elsewhere, battery storage for self generation (typically PV) is interesting (to some), and gathering momentum in the UK. So here's a thread to discuss it, and watch it develop. I've called it on-grid, as off-grid is so much more specialised. And domestic as commercial scale storage, or grid…

Shade greener not getting free electric
Hi I have doubted for a while now that I am actually getting any free electric with the Shade Greener panels so I decided to take some pictures of my smart meter and as I suspected the total keeps going up during the day 11am to 2 pm. Is this a breach of shade greenery contract!

Getting an "A" EPC Rating
After what feels like a 2.5 year journey, our London semi-detached was re-rated with an "A" EPC score. Our surveyor stated this was the first one their company had seen in 17 years and was the only retrofit 30+ year old property in Central London to achieve this rating. Incase there is interest in what it took to achieve,…

Which solar seasonable tariffs best?
I wonder if I could just put some questions out there about tariffs, solar and changing over to Octopus etc as my head hurts from trying to work it all out and knowing there is a lot of experience out there on the forum it seems to makes sense to ask those in the know. We will shortly have 16 x 500 panels and a Tesla PW3…

Lux ac battery controller
Thought I'd start a new thread for the Lux battery controller as suggested on the battery storage thread. To kick it off, I notice there is an entry on the web portal stats under "history data" for battery temperature (tBat°C) but mine just shows zeros. There's also entries for max and min cell voltage but again, no…

SEG tarrif Scottish gas not supporting this installation.
Through Scotland home energy I have recently had solar panels and battery fitted to my home along with smart meter. I tried to sign up to the SEG tarrif but a message comes up saying this installation is not supported. Can anyone throw any light on this? If there's an answer out there before trying to contact Scottish Gas…

Emerald energy caller
