I'd somehow missed your reply. Ha ha I did make him carry the odd item or wipe down a table or two

but in short it was far easier to keep him from under foot.

It is hard when children see their peers getting things that they themselves have to work for. It must be hard to motivate him because of that. Your daughter on the other hand sounds like she will do fine whatever happens. Go girl!

So funny ready your post about how different you son and daughter are with money. It is EXACTLY the same in our house.

Money runs through my Ds's fingers like sand, he got given £5 from his granddad and has been bugging and bugging me to spend it on pointless rubbish for weeks, even though he often asks be to sub him extra money as he can't afford X Y or Z. I hardly ever give him the extra money, trying to explain that if he saves his £5 and does some jobs then he would soon have the £10 he needed. He really does struggle with that concept

Whereas Dd is a little squirreler of money, she will keep it all in her penny pot and regularly count it out as it grows, I have to keep a close eye on her as if there are an small change piles around the house she will snaffle them away into her pot!! :mad:

Strange how siblings can turn out sooo differently.

My ds wants a laptop for his birthday but he 11, abit younger than your ds so he will be lucky to get a second hand one and maybe not even that.

Hi Bob,
Most of the things I try to motivate work for a little while and then drift off into apathy. At the end of the day both are really good children and I really shouldn't complain, DD hasn't gone of the rails with alcohol or drugs or sex, unlike some of her peers, ad DS is pretty tame .....so far! Unfortunately I have very high expectations of both.

Hi Brizzle - thanks for keeping an eye on me ....need to keep on the straight and narrow!

Usual ups and downs over last week or two, manic as always.
DS now back at school and went off to Germany for language exchange 4 days into term with rugby matches at weekend plus auditions for promotion into senior bands - too much too soon in my opinion. Dropped of DD at uni for 2nd year at the weekend, so it has been a hectic September.
DS back tonight, T've missed him as he gives lots of hugs all the time (to the point of annoyance!). Was a bit down after dropping DD off on Saturday as it was a taste of when both have left home :-( Kept myself busy and decluttered some kitchen cupboards, also had a huge bonfire and burnt /shredded all the rubbish from mega bout of gardening n the last few weeks.
Feeling bit more in control of things now.
Started writing my book! or books actually.... a paragraph done for each.

Money news:-
Mortgage hopefully sorted - have gone for a 5yr fix just to be sure we know how much to budget for as DS finishes his school years.
WE wouldn't be able to buffer any interest rate rises. Paperwork should arrive tomorrow. need to alter my signature as most recent balance for mortgage was a nice surprise - down to £194K. Half is on interest only need to find a way of making overpayments - only 9 years left.

Wonder if I can count on kids to start paying towards the mortgage uni - after all, it is them that will benefit the most.......

Off grocery shopping - down to our last loo (insert ROTFL smiley - they won't insert!)

I know what you mean about the children making the difference to your mood. I've had a really crap day. My work rent is due tommorow. I managed to take £50.
The rain put paid to anyone venturing out after about 11am and as I stood in my empty cafe thinking for the umpteenth time, why am I doing this? My mood was pretty black.
Left early to collect son as I thought what the hell. Seeing his face, hearing his teacher tell me he'd had a good day (we've had a bit of trouble with hitting since he started back at school, him on others!) & the fact he was cheerful & happy, made the walk/cycle home so much easier.
Glad your son is back to give you too many hugs again

Also very good news on the mortgage!

Hi Bob, Told you I was keeping busy decluttering - Km'd my loos! bet that's a first. (Rolls nicely stocked up now).
My smileys aren't working - only difference I can think of is I've downloaded windows10?

Plane delayed by 1hr, have to pick up at 9 now so have unexpected few minutes.

Sorry you have had a crap day at work, but glad that ds had a good day at school. Makes it all worth it. I guess summer must always be your busiest time?
