Early problem, where to tip the old tea leaves?. I normally tip them on the garden, but still snow and not risking it. Settled on "storing" them in empty old nuking container. Thaw & rain due today so should be able to sort them out soon

Pot of tea, jumbo porridge, HM yoghurt & honey for breakfast. Used last of my fresh milk so had to open the "good job I had some" UHT milk

Lunch will be another cheeses salady sarnie

LO suet crust pie portion for dinner, I think I will go Northern tonight and have it with chips & gravy. I've tried curry sauce on chips, not impressed, but I'm take or leave with curry

Like Money, I'm starting to get stir crazy, last time I was out was Tuesday. I'm expecting rain & slow thaw today, maybe get out tomorrow, if the car starts that is

You need to pop over to kittie's and deliver a lesson in "loving what you scoff, to heck with how it sounds".

I hear gentle drips outside, good, a slow thaw with water trickling away

Tummy feels nice and comfortable, having had my scrambled egg mix. Think I will just do a few bone-strengthening star jumps before I get changed, it is all about me being responsible for my own health as I get older, no second chances and I want to stay energetic, medication-free and with a zest for the likes of cycling and getting into nature. I am what I eat, so the rest of the cadbury fingers are going to be chopped for the birds. I don`t know what made me buy them in the first place

I whipped up a quick hot, tasty and filling toasted bread roll with baked beans and scrambled eggs.

That's what's needed in this weather, an early belly-filling winter warmer :)

Quick query for the day - the snow is still falling. It's not very thick - but I postponed yesterday's supermarket visit till today - and...yep...it's still falling.

One gets warier about any risk of medical attention being needed when living in the back of beyond (if a town - rather than tiny hamlet). So I used to have several hospitals and a walk-in centre available to me. Now the nearest hospital is quite some distance away and I'm not even sure if it's 24/7 (as I'm used to) and my doctor is now a 20 minute busride away on an hourly bus (rather than a walk round the corner away).

Upshot - I'm wondering whether to get myself a taxi to/from the supermarket. It wouldnt cost much - I find the taxi fares cheap here.

Does anyone have any ratings to give for Tesco cafe? I know I'm fine with Waitrose ones and would even have a meal there. I've got visions of "I'll treat myself to a cup of coffee whilst I wait for a taxi back from there" boiling down to = "Oh...it's only instant/some sachet stuff/overboiled jug of real coffee weak strength". (EDIT; Yep....it's literally decades since I went in a supermarket cafe - except Waitrose....LOL).

What's my chances of going in and saying "Flat white please" and actually getting that? - or am I going to be lurking around the aisles whilst waiting for a taxi back.

Yep...my definition of a coffee out is something strong/real/fashionable and, if I fancy a cake once in a blue moon - then maybe a slice of lemon polenta cake or an almond croissant.:rotfl:

#ducks waiting for Pastures to make comments about "posh middle class drinks" :rotfl:

    Good morning everyone,
Farway - I have a caddy I pop compostable things in and just add it to my compost bin when it's full
MTSTM - I'd second the taxi thought though can't advise on the Tesco cafe.

It seems milder this morning (though not bymuch) so hopefully the snow will go over the next couple of days. At least at the back of my house so I can safely get to the bin.

No food consumed as yet just coffee but breakfast will be toast & cottage cheese with tomato and some dried fruit. Lunch will be a re-run of yesterday's soup & sandwich and tonight I'm making rump steak with steamed baby potatoes, flat mushrooms & griddled onions.

This morning I needed my studded grippy things over my wellies as it is so icy. It's the first time I have needed them in this Cumbrian valley. Here you mostly need water wings :( Where I used to live in Pennine Yorkshire they were well used every year as I lived down a track and the climate was colder there. In fact I have a selection to fit over different footwear.
I should get the camera out before the thaw - she said hopefully. There is a little bungalow on the village green with spectacular icicles hanging from the guttering. One of them is over 4 foot long in old money.
Hoping to get the car out later today - just hoping it will start!
Otherwise food is down to staples like tinned sardines, pasta, porridge and the last eggs from the nearby farm.

    Morning All

Its warmer here too and thankfully the winds dropped. I spoke with an HGV driver friend on his night run to the central belt last night and at 8.00pm it was 2c. As a result, rather than the powdery pinhead hail/snow we’ve been having we had proper snowflake snow another 3-4 inches, looking out this morning you would never know that I cleared the drive yesterday :(

Forecast suggests that Monday is going to be 4c and rain so I’m only going to clear the path to the bins meantime and wait for the thaw to happen to get the car out early in the week, by then I will be needing to top up on some fresh supplies.

Banana on toast for breakfast again, decided to do some baking this afternoon to use up the remaining ripe bananas and while the ovens on I’ll do a pizza for tea.

Same here. All the hospitals are around 40 minutes hard driving away including any A&E. Plus the different specialisms are spread out at different hospitals in different directions. :( The medical centre is only a couple of miles away but there is no bus service. That's why I put my snow grips on this morning. The consequences of falling and breaking something don't bear thinking about. At my age - coughs - I think maybe I should be living somewhere more sensible.
Enjoy your outing. It's years since I was in a supermarket cafe but I should imagine they have come on a bit.

It's over here.... still white stuff on the ground, but it's melting and if you step on it then that bit will melt in the following seconds/minutes. Slushy. All roads are wet, with puddles. All "back to normal" when I look out of the window and up the public road.

That was the Great Freeze of 2018 over and done with then!

There's some hospital of some sort about 2 miles from me and "the big/main one" 4-5 miles away. I've not been to either. I'm not one for needing Drs and I've never stayed in a hospital (wasn't even born in one!).
