silver-oldie, this is exactly why to post on here. You will find everyone will give you support.
softstuff I hope you can get the Dr to go see your mum today.0 -
Silveroldie - this thread exists to support anyone of us who is feeling low, ill, lonely or just peed off in general. One way or another many of us have been in the same situation so whether you need practical advice, moral support or a team hug please please don't feel what troubles you is too trivial - life can be very hard so share xxSmall victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0

Maratha -- someone must have pulled the plug out! Maybe Hester is between locks? Don't know much about canal barges.Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0

Oh SilverOldie, would a virtual hug help? (((0)))
Please do post on here. These folk are amazing.
You may also like to look into the Silverline. It is like Childline only for older people. A lady I know was very lonely and desperate to just chat to someone and I arranged for Silverline to ring her once a week. It is a fabulous service. Some of the recipients actually go on to make the calls to others.

I became aware of the organisation in my (previous) professional capacity so I know they are bona fide. They do a fantastic job and are there just for people in your situation.
Why don't you post here about your current circumstances so we can support you, and then tell us some of the good things you want to share as well (we love daft stories about kids, animals, cooking, sailing, old cars, favourite sandwich fillings...... you name it, we'll read it :rotfl:).
Firstly though, make a cup of tea and spend a moment deciding what you would love to eat for dinner one night this week. Write a shopping list then buy the necessary items. If DH won't eat the same make him some soup and you have your treat. You most certainly deserve it xI have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.0 -
Silveroldie, on a more practical note, if you haven't already, ask Social Services for an assessment of BOTH your needs and DH. There is support available. There may also be a dementia support group or activities in your area. Just having another person to talk to one to one who is going through the same as you will help. Without giving too much away, perhaps you could tell us roughly which area you live in, someone here will know what's available in your region!I have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.0

Silveroldie, don't ever feel alone, this is a fabulous place for support, help or a good laugh.
I'm interested to know how HH has managed to run aground in a canal, perhaps she got lost and is actually somewhere in the English Channel.
Thanks for your offer Cranky, I'll give you a shout next time I'm in Chester. I had a lovely drive home, the first hour in silence as my ears were bleeding!!0 -
Silveroldie, I'll echo what everyone else has said, when you feel like you're alone or even if you're doing fine and just fancy visiting with a few gorgeous nutters, here is the place to be. It's the most supportive bunch around.
For those who worry about mentioning things, for fear someone else has it worse than them, don't. Most of us here are aware that sometimes we cope really well when something massive hits, but then something small can be the straw that breaks the camels back.
Hester, too much rocking the boat last night ran you aground??
Good news here I think. A brief call to mum, I was stern, she still hasn't seen a doc. I told her I'd sort it. Got on the phone to the docs eventually from here, schmoozed a fellow medical receptionist, she's got an appointment today. The lady she has an appointment with has a comprehensive set of notes too in advance. As for speaking to her GP, I've arranged a telephone appointment with him, a little over a week from now and we'll have a chat. Oh, and I arranged a friend to escort her to the docs, in case she .... is not able. *phew* After that we went out for a low carb burger and well earned rest. I feel like that's the progress we need for now. Obviously we'll see what the appointment brings, then we'll work from there. I'll discuss with the GP further social services details. Turns out, according to her friend, social services have been to mum. They must either have caught her on a good day, or been oblivious though... anyhoo, onwards and er... onwards.
Thank you all again xxx
Bedtime for me (I've eaten finally, now I'll try for sleep too)Softstuff- Officially better than 0070 -
I'm so pleased you got to speak to a fellow professional SS . Hopefully you'll sleep now with an easier mind x
For all our new friends . I agree with all said regarding sharing, offloading or good things . There is no judgement or nastiness here . This thread has held me up and got me through tough and worrying times and they know that :Aas do others on OS threads .
I have never seen an OSer who has had the "perfect " charmed life . We've all walked different paths but have shared experience which sometimes helps .
Silver-oldie as others have mentioned you are a carer and if you haven't already done so it can be worth having your own needs assessed or even seeing if you have a Carers centre in your area .
You can get solid advice and support and if possible maybe an hour or two of respite .
The rain it rained and rained non-stop . Now there is a strange light appearing in the sky and the clouds starting to clear .
Weather man is talking temperatures akin to Spain . As a true Northerner I shall wait and see .
Enjoy your day all if possible . Hugs and thoughts with burtha and my mate Karcher - I ain't getting my coat without you !
Come back Monna asap .
Sleep tight Softstuff x
polly xIt is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.
There but for fortune go you and I.0 -
softstuff glad you have made a start on sorting your mum. I hope you are feeling better yourself.
Can I ask a question? I'm really struggling with "Henrietta" "Henry's" sister. It's not like there is anything wrong with her I am sure she will last for years.
I have been thinking about getting one of these modern stick vacuums. I have looked at them and have narrowed it down to two the Shark and three different models of Dyson, the smaller Dyson is on Sale at the moment as is the shark. The biggest Dyson is very expensive.
Has anyone else got a stick Vacuum?0 -
monna I guess you are having no success with charging the tablet. My DD had a cheap one at first but she had the same problem you are having. It may be best to get a better one. You seem to get what you pay for with tablets.
DD has no problems now. They both think the cheaper one was false economy. We are all missing you. I don't know what we would do if you went away for a couple of weeks.0
