Phones are also a problem, I find them difficult.
I also don't "do" phones; I can't even stay in the room while Mr LW makes or receives a phone call.
Oh, and if I had £1 for every time I've typed out a post, re-read it, and thought "nah, I can't post that" and deleted it, I'd have at least £587.43If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
So glad to see you back Monna.
SO, I don't have any friends either but that's probably because I'm obnoxious!
I'm finding life on the canal very isolated if I don't see my DD's I don't speak to anyone, CHS is good at some things, wink, wink, but not a great conversationalist.
I have a Bosch stick vacuum it's very good.
Dementia, my ex mil has it, she doesn't know her arris from Wednesday, but she can still be nasty when she chooses.
My DD did her first stand up comedy routine last week, she went down a storm, like her mother she can be foul mouthed, but she was hysterically funny.Chin up, Titus out.0 -
I know there are no tides on the canals, lol. But after we moored up some begger pulled the plug out ( opened the sluices to avoid a flood) as the boat has a very deep bottom, unlike me, I just have a big one, we got stuck at an angle, we have now moved the boat on to proper moorings and we are now straight again.Chin up, Titus out.0

Hester - my little boat has a bilge keel as most of the moorings in this area are tidal. Unless I'm on the side of a mudbank she usually sits square. Life on the slant is a bit of a challenge isn't it. Glad your DD's gig went well - she's certainly got some serious bottle to do that!Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0

I'll now have to brush up on Docky speak , it's been a while since he honoured us with his presence .
Welcome back dear monna , Don't even try to educate the Lurcha . He's beyond any hope where education is concerned .
Hester you have many friends on the forum and on your blog . You and John Gray are always the first blogs I read . You both have a way with titles for your posts and always a laugh , a bit of domesticity or an occasional rant not to mention some very norty but hilarious topics at times .

My goodness. I turn my back for 5 minutes and you all gallop through several life times. I should have made notes but thought of that too late so will probably miss out something I wanted to say to someone one. I'll say sorry now if it was you.
Softstuff. You've really been through the mill, haven't you? Seems that your mum is being looked after as much as she will allow. I feel for you. My mum had vascular dementia but fortunately she was very passive and went along with whatever she was told to do. The hardest thing to take was that she didn't know who I was, I don't think that I ever really came to terms with that. My exotic seasoning arrived to day. Can't wait to try it.
Has yours come Islandmaid ? Perhaps we can get going on The weightloss programme.
Silvasava. Well done on the jumble sale and bacon sardines. I'm glad that you've spruced up the boat before gracing our harbour. We have standards, you know.
Mar. Glad the RV is less ratty. I missed you too.
Lonewolf. You underestimate yourself you know. I have always admired you from a distance - I believe you prefer it that way. You have real character and are absolutely your own person. It takes courage to do that and I salute you. Notwithstanding I'm as soft about dogs as you are and love to hear about your canine friends.
Hopefully. I am so glad to meet you, having spent 40 years in the classroom I know exactly where you are coming from. I hate that expression, but it just popped out.
Fortunately for me I only spent the first part of my career in the State system. When I returned to teaching when my youngest was old enough, I soon realised that things were going downhill. I escaped into the private arena where the children came first and the politicians were not involved. Thus I can honestly say that I loved teaching. Me plus the children in the clasroom and I was happy. School was a different matter.
I think you hit the nail on the head when you referred to your 'manager'. Schools used to have Head Teachers. Hospitals used to have Matrons. Now they both have managers. This tells me that both Edcation and the Health Service are now businesses and the system is more important than the people.
If it's any comfort, my brother was Head of a First and Middle school and when he was in his early 50s his doctor told him that he would be dead in 6 months if he didnt get out. He was so conscientious and so stressed that he used to phone me in tears at midnight, still in his office at school. My lovely SIL was also a dedicated teacher in a very deprived area. She used to give up a lot of her holidays to take the children camping so that they could experience life outside their massive run down housing estate My brother retired after seeing his school through an Ofsted inspection where they got glowing report. I asked him if it had made him reconsider retiring early. He said no, it meant nothing, just that they had put on a good show for a week.
My SIL retired at the same time. What a wicked waste of two dedicated teachers.
My DB is a lovely, gentle man who would have, and nearly did, lay down his life for his staff and children They have both enjoyed over 20 years of retirement.
Hopefuljoy, you will be fine.. Give the dust time to settle and give your poor mind a rest and you will find that there is a whole, beautiful world out there, just waiting for you. And we are all here ready and waiting to torment you. Well, polly won't torment you, she will kiss your bruises, bandage up your wounds sing you lullabies.
Silver oldie. I have deliberately left you till last. I have been following you for a while on the daily thread. Let me tell you this. When I read your signature I broke down in tears. I was in a complete emotional mess at the time and I knew that you would understand. Dear Silver oldie, you have come home. The folk here are the most precious friends you could possibly find. You will never be alone again. Promise.
We will talk more, not now or I will be thrown off the forum and my poor fingers will give up in exhaustion.
It's really to late now for a THOUGHT FOR TODAY isn't it? Oh well, go on then. Just a shorty.
