  • And I thought I had heard it all!!! :rotfl:
Take it from someone in the construction industry - thats all nonsense.
Look on the bright side - one day those that don't carry out insulating measures to their property will have higher council tax etc ( or so they have suggested) - in their case ( not mine ahem.....) bring it on!!!
Sorry to hear that you have to live next to them though.
    May 2018 - £159k + £3.5K CC - let the countdown begin! :)
    March 2019 - CC gone and bye bye M2 on 31st! £140k to go.:j
  • Hi everyone, thanks so much for your replies.

I know what they are saying is complete rubbish I think I just needed other people to reassure me just in case there was some archaic law that I didn't know about!

Bit of a quick update: They rung us earlier to say that they had been to the law centre and "are waiting on a call back from their solicitor" before they take any further action. This just seems like i'm being set up in some elaborate tv "gotcha" but sadly I know it's true.

I guess the worst thing is 1) worrying about having to go to court and 2) the repercussions of having to live next to them if we don't comply (although idiots, they compensate for this by being very aggressive and the dad & eldest lad are heavily into bodybuilding and with me at work all day I worry for my wife & child).

With regards to the loft, it's not a shared space, I believe all the houses have been sectioned off, or at least the ones from neighbours i've spoken to have been.

If they keep up this ridiculous stance I may just report them for fraudulent claiming, I know the dad is definitely pulling a fast one as he's bragged about it before. Just seems completely stupid over some bloody insulation and it's now come to our families completely hating each other and reporting each other to the authorities! Wish i'd never done it now and just bought a space heater :(
  • Don't let them get you down mate. You've done right to get it done and try to save yourself some cash.

They're probably waiting to hear from the solicitor cos the solicitor was too busy peeing himself laughing at the original idea that he couldn't tell them how much bo11ox they were talking at the time :D

Shop them about the benefits if you get ANY crap off them.

  • Mouth breathing idiots! Of course it is a load of ballcocks and it won't get anywhere. It just makes me so mad that bottom feeders like that can cause you so much anxiety for doing the right thing, plus they have the nerve to go to the law centre and squander valuable resources taking up time with their nonsense. They are probably having to wait for a call back while the law centre staff pick themselves up the floor and stop laughing hysterically.

I've lived next door to muppets like this, and I know how stressful it can be, and that you don't want to escalate it, however I will say keep a detailed log of any intimidation and abuse, get any photos you can to back up what you say etc. because if things DO get really bad it will be important to have evidence. Are they owners/council tennants/private renters etc?

At this stage I'd just be very polite and interested "oh really? Well, I look forward to hearing what they say" etc. When they realise it is a) a load of carp, they don't have a leg to stand on and b) they are not intimidating you hopefully they will leave you alone. Bit like dogs, don't show any fear or aggression and they will leave you alone!

    Hugs

It’s illegal to not share heat in a terraced property? :rotfl:

We’ve not had ours insulated, as it’s over 100 years old and I don’t really fancy it falling down (surveyors report), but I’d let them take you to court.

Advise them that they can have their insulation done for free if they’re on benefit, and maybe they should do so. A judge would tell them the same.

  • OMG your neighbours are absolute idiots! Im agog!

Ok, if it's the court bit worrying you, why don't you get some free advice in the meantime? perhaps via any legal cover on your house insurance premium, or even pop along to the citizens advice bureau. Im sure they will reassure you you have nothing to be anxious about.

I like the idea of billing the family for the heating they've nicked! What a joke - not funny you have to put up with them though. Life will catch up with them soon enough - I'm a big believer in Karma.

Please report them. People like this put our whole benefit system in jeopardy for people who are truly ill or disabled, who need the support of the rest of society, in order to survive. I hate that the taxes of the hard working get wasted on such scum.

Please let us know the outcome of them 'taking you to court'. I could do with another chuckle!

Ah! I'd forgotten about that one! I liked that one. Not so much this one if I'm being honest...
