  • just had an email saying they have listened and are reducing the dd. switch already in progress will not cancel it because have never been with a utility that has threatened to charge for a missed dd even when you are in credit.

this isn't a loan, isn't a credit card they have no right to charge for a missed dd on that basis im out

I'm also very disappointed by this. For me the issue isn't the actual amounts, but the fact my electricity use isn't seasonal (well insulated modern flat with gas heating and hot water). So in the summer I will be paying half what I know I will be using next year with the price rises. Just doesn't make any sense to me - I just want to pay the same each month.

Disappointed and surprised to see in this thread that this won't be possible so I'll be switching away as well.
  • I saw these signs when I tried to join Iresa. Look at what happened to them!
The writing is on the wall. This company lies, changes the terms and uses us as a bank loan to keep them afloat. Im leaving and everyone else should too!

    The customer is always right
  • 2nd worst company I have ever had to deal with, absolute joke that Ofgem allows them to trade in this sector without any background checks on the directors

I agree, my usage is not seasonal either and that's a big issue. My DD went out today still on the old figure. My switch is in progress so fingers crossed I will be moved by next DD. Doing regular meter reads just to check no issues there.

They are threatening people (it's in their t&c) with a £25 fee for each missed payment unless you pay them within 5 days. So you could be worse off?
My account has £200 credit so the December payment won't be missed, they will be forced to take it from my existing credit. By the following month I will have switched to e.on
    This is exactly me.
    I cancelled the direct debit.

It's a wonder they want to put my winter DD up to £95 and summer at £68.
    I currently pay £66 :S

I've cancelled my impending switch as (a) the DD is acceptable and balances out to 12 x my current DD and (b) I'm worried about the length of time to get my credit balance back and (c) I want to be with them a year to get a correct usage figure. Come April I will be off as they are an absolute shambles! It remains to be seen, however, what DD will be taken from my account on 8 December so I may be instigating that switch again........
    Woohoohoohooooooooo
  • The is a BBC news story about them now.

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-46317795

They claim that the 25% estimate increase was a mistake. I'm afraid I don't believe them as I emailed them about that a week ago and it took then almost a week to apologise.

They just thought everyone would sit back and take it.

Absolutely. "We are sorry we got found out because when you're this desperate for money you'll try anything" would be more accurate.

There is no possible universe in which adding 25% to everyone's bill could be a genuine mistake which can just be shrugged off. We're not talking about 25p on a loaf of bread, this "mistake" had it not been challenged would have made them millions of pounds in December alone: an extra £10 from 100,000 customers is a million quid and most people's "mistakes" were for a lot more than £10. It's either absolute incompetence or an attempt at fraud.
  • Ok - I have to be honest. i had high hopes. Buy utilities at wholesale - sell them to your customers at that rate. Charge a high daily standing charge - and that and only that is your commission.
Easy for you. Customer count dictates income. No risk of losing money as the price changes, as all tariffs are variable.
BUT - and there is a but. this great idea is being implemented by a bunch of idiots with no commercial acumen whatsoever. Clearly they have got their maths wrong - and need more operating capital. they have just written to ALL of their customers - telling them that they are going to increase our Direct Debits to invoice us for 70% of a year over winter, and 30% over summer.
Now my electricity useage is nearly flat summer to winter, it doesn't vary by more than a few percent summer to winter, and I frankly doubt that anyone's electricity does unless they heat the house with it. So - for me and I guess nearly everyone else, this is just theft. A bank will charge them interest to borrow money, but they are trying to steal it from me instead and not pay me any interest.
    I am thus going to:
    1. voice my opinion here
    2. Complain to the regulator
    3. Switch supplier to someone who can actually do what they say they are going to do.
In summary - Thieves - probably underfunded thieves who are about to go bust. AVOID like the plague.
