Also photos of things can be good for sparking memories and photos of ornaments will collect less dust!
Maybe look to just halve the number of boxes first off. You don't have to sort it all out in one round.

hi everyone.
I havnt read through any posts since i last posted a few months back.
I totally lost all motivation, for a long time! I was uplifted last week as I finally have a part time job, starting tomorrow
Im excited and it has given me enough motivation to start again. Room by room needs doing, have made a start in attic today and dismantled my ds old bed (he shares with DD now in bunk beds) and have it ready for the tip.
It has given me space up there to start sorting the toys to make it into a playroom. onwards and upwards!!
Ive also cleaned the bathroom today and done some washing, waiting for it to dry then will put away

Whitewing, Pavlov & Caity - thank you very much for your thoughtful & practical suggestions. I have 4/5 days that are free at the moment so I'm going to make a start. I think what has held me back for so long is that I know the things had precious memories for her but I will try to make sure that the things I let go will do some good one way or another.
I will post & let you know how I am progressing - it may be a while 'cos there's lots of other c**p in the loft!!!Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -

I fear I may have agreed to something a bit stupid. The plaster on one of our bedroom walls was badly damaged by a leak over this terrible winter and needs to be completely replastered. Our builder has offered to do it next week but this well mean having to clear the vast majority of our room - which is my main hoarding ground. Stupidly I agreed to the timescale.
Now I'm looking at what we need to do (over the bank holiday no less) and regretting it. This is going to take hours and hours.
It's a good thing as I can have a major clear-out as I go, but with daughter to look after aswell this is a big undertaking in a short period of time. Most of our stuff will need to be moved to daughter's room or downstairs. I'm panicing a little.

To save time and to make sure you get the room clear, I wouldn't sort too much of it in the bedroom; just shove it all in to bags and / or boxes and put it out of the room. If it's something already marked for CS /chucking, try and get that out of the house before the weekend.
Put anything vital in a marked box to keep important stuff together and accessible (for me that would be hairdryer, straighteners, jewellery, beauty bits).
Then you can focus on looking after your daughter and making sure she enjoys her Easter.
Sort and sling/recycle/CS it when the time comes for it to go back in the room, or go through boxes/bags one at a time in any spare time you have when it's out of the bedroom.

I agree with Mcculloch, dont try and do it all at once. Maybe you could sort a little as you put it back? Thus saving re loading the room.Clearing the junk to travel light

Thanks Mcculloch and ginnyknit, I like that idea I want her to enjoy her easter (she's only 3 but we've got plans with friends over the weekend) rather than me stressing about moving things.
I might try with the 'little and often' approach over the next few days - I have bags that need to go to CS so will aim to get those out. If anything really needs to go as I'm moving things I can chuck as I do it but the worst of it can be done as things go back in. I suppose I should see it as an opportunity to declutter on a large scale.
Oh, and one more thing. Today is the 25th anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster. Justice for the 96, and thinking of their families."Why, this is hell, nor am I out of it."0 -
I agree with mcculloch, just box or bag and remove. Sort it as you move it back in.
Alternately, have a keep, chuck, not sure pile and just get rid of the chuck pile (tip, recycling centre, charity shop - dont spend time on it). Then box unsures and keeps separately and sort.
Whatever you do, do a bit then tidy up/vacuum. Do it in chunks of time so that you don;t try to do too much in one go and knacker/panic yourself.
When you do come to sort out a bag or box afterwards, I find it easier to put it on a table, even outside if the weather is fine.
