Bright red LED = Standby
Dull red LED = ON
I think you're right here.
When I switch the box on the TV comes on!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - probably translates as "When I switch the box OFF(on) the analogue channels(TV) comes on!!!!!!!!!!!
It sounds like it may have been working from the beginning and only some channels were available as the box needed to update after being disconnected from the mains or the aerial lead wasn't fully connected.0 -
OK I guess I have mixed up the settings on the box, bright light - on standby dull light - box on......
Why does the signal strength keep dropping?...........does it have something to do with the prevailing weather conditions?????? we did not seem to suffer from this until I swapped the TV....or is this just a coincidence????? right connecting the DVD and video, remember I am an idiot!!!!!!!!!!!!:Ddoes this mean that I have to connect the freeview box into the splitter????? oh my god why did I start this....I should have bought a DVD with built in freeview then I would only have the VCR and TV to worry about!!!!! Is there any difference to the scart leads???? are any better than any others????

A bit more info would help.
1. How many scarts does the TV have?
2. How many scarts does the Freeview box have?
3. As above for DVD? Also is it a DVD player or recorder?
4. The splitter - is it a scart splitter or an aerial splitter?
Yes there is a difference between scart leads. Some are RGB, some are not. There are also better quality RGB leads.0 -
1 Scart socket on TV
Just the input scart on the freeview box
1 on the DVD, its a player
The splitter is a scart.
It is a technika SBX84 AV control AV1 AV2 AV3 and one marked TV/Monitor
It has an on off switch for RGB and switches for the AV1, AV2 and AV3, which I believe means that I have to change by pushing the buttons to allow the video/DVD/freeview box to work.
Which leads should I buy????

Yes that's correct.
This is what you need to do.
Connect the VCR/DVD/Freeview box to the three inputs AV1, AV2 and AV3 of the scart splitter. I'm assuming the VCR has a scart, I forgot to ask you. Then you will connect the scart splitter to the TV using TV/Monitor.
Then as you said, press the appropriate button to watch each one.
The RF lead should go into your Freeview box, then from there into the VCR, then into the TV.
Some of the scart splitters will also allow you to record between the inputs. If this is the case there would be another set of buttons - you don't mention this so it may not be possible. However read the instructions you got with the splitter and see if it is possible. This would allow you to record from the Freeview box.Which leads should I buy????
You would probably be fine with leads which say RGB capable or fully wired.0 -
As I said there is a switch which says RGB on/off at the side of this there are 3 buttons which have copy AV>2 AV1 AV3>AV1.
I have to get two more leads before I can connect everything up, think I'll leave it for a bit........ I am exhausted after my labours since sunday.... the instructions say to connect the video to AV1 so you can copy to it. So I presume I then connect the DVD to 2 and freeview to 3????
